5 SYMBOLS OF CONFUCIANISM

1. Chinese Character for Scholar

These Chinese character is made especially to


represent and emphasize the importance of self-
awareness and knowledge. There are other Chinese
characters that can be translated as scholar but the
“ru” character specifically refers to the scholar
Confucius.

2. Yin-Yang
The fourth symbol Yin-Yang is said to be common in
other forms of Chinese religion. The general meaning of
this symbol is that the circle represents a whole, while the
halves and dots depict opposites, interactions or balance.
This symbol is specially used in Taoism but it is also used in
Confucianism.

3. Confucius

Confucius became one of those symbols obviously because he is


the founder of the religion. Confucius is a ancient philosopher that
is interested on people's moral conduct in his time. This interest
led him into forming set beliefs and values that nowadays, we
know as the moral stance of Confucianism.

4. Chinese Character for Water


The most likely to be recognized as their trademark
is the Chinese character of water. First of all, Chinese
philosophers and believers of Confucianism see it as a source of life and it is an absolute
necessity that primarily gives strength and rest. It is viewed as a life source. Which is the
most important factor for a man to live.

5. Li

Li is a Chinese word that is commonly used in Chinese


philosophy. It is particularly used in Confucianism. According to
the World Religions, Li refers to the correct behavior, worship,
good manners and politeness.
