4. SCOPE
This part of ISO 1167 specifies a general test method for determining the resistance to internal
hydrostatic pressure at a given temperature of thermoplastics pipes, fitting and piping systems for
the transport of fluids. He method accommodates water-in-water and water-in-liquid tests.

5. PURPOSE
1. This procedure serves as a guide to the steps involved in carrying out material for test safely
and correctly
2. As a reference test activities are in accordance with applicable codes & standards and design
specifications.
3. Guarantee the results of work that can be accounted for as a condition of the job wel received
by the contractor..

a. Minimum Pressure. Except as limited in, a piping system shall be subjected to a hydrostatic
test pressure that at every point in the system is not less than 1.5 times the design pressure.
b. Maximum Pressure. The test pressure shall not exceed the maximum test pressure for any
vessel, pump, valve, or other component in the system under test. A check shall be made to
verify that the stress due to pressure at the bottom of vertical runs does not exceed either of
the following:
▪ 90% of specified minimum yield strength
▪ 1.7 times the SE value in Mandatory Appendix (for brittle materials)

● Test Fluid
- Water quality of intended hydrostatic test waters shall be determined well ahead of the
actual testing date so that alternative water sources may be identified if the original
source water fails to meet requirements.
- Water quality of hydrostatic test waters shall be reconfirmed by testing as close to the
time of the hydrostatic test as practicable. In cases where individual tanker trucks are
used to supply a test, the water samples shall be drawn from a representative number
of actual truck loads being delivered to the test site.
- Water used for any part of the hydro testing or subsequent lay-up shall be clean and
free from suspended matter.
- Water that could result in harm to humans must not be6used of 8 for hydro testing.
- Clean fresh water for all lines except austenitic stainless steel where low chloride water
shall be used. (50 mg/l maximum for austenitic stainless steels and 100 mg/l maximum
for other metals)

General comments: which reference to be used for this testing procedure

• Examination for Pressure Testing

Following the application of hydrostatic test pressure for at least 10 min, examination shall
be made for leakage of the piping, and at all joints and connections. If leaks are found, they shall
be eliminated by tightening, repair, or replacement, as appropriate, and the hydrostatic test
repeated until no leakage is found. Here are several stages of the hydrotes procedure :
instead of the design pressure
1. First stage : Preliminary test of not more than 10 psig (69Kpa) for at least 10 minutes
2. Second stage : 25% of the pressure is raised from the initial pressure for 10 minutes
3. Second stage : 50% of the pressure is raised form the initial for 10 minutes
4. Final stage : 100% full pressure and withstand pressure within 15 minutes
duration for hydrostatic testing shall be a minimum of 30 min as per condition

6.2. Hydrostatic Testing

temperature
• Test Medium Water at ambient tempera- ture shall be used as the test medium except where
there is risk of damage due to freezing. Another liquid may be used if it is safe for workmen
and compatible with the piping.
• Vents and Drains Vents shall be provided at high points in the system to release trapped air
while filling the system. Drains shall be provided at low points for complete removal of the
test liquid
• Preliminary Check. The system shall be examined to see that all equipment and parts that
cannot withstand the test pressure are properly isolated. Test equipment shall be examined
to ensure that it is tight and that low-pressure filling lines are disconnected.
• Hydrostatic Test Preassure Pressure
Except as limited in para.6.1. a piping system shall be subjected to a hydrostatic test
pressure that at every point in the system is not less than 1.5 times the design pressure.

6.3 Post Hydro Test Activities
After hydrostatic testing has been completed, the line shall be dried, the piping system shall not show any sign deformation of
leakage.
All piping system shall be subject ti reinstatement upon completion of hydrostatic testing. reinstatement shall included installation of
all material removed prior to testing completion of hydrostatic test.

manifold) and equipment included in each pressure test, high points (vent) & low points
(drain), location of pressure gauges, test pressure, test temperature, test fluid, safety
precautions (shall be appeared in drawing a test symbol legend).
