All Filipinos know that our national hero is Dr.Jose Rizal. We know that he was an shot
in Bagumbayan .We only know that he died because of his love for our country. But only few of
us know what he had done, where he had been and how many sacrifices he had made for the sake
of our country's independence from the Spaniards. Above are the two memes that I chose to talk
about because these memes depict the truth about young ones today. The first image or Meme
says that “ Namatay ako para sa inyo pero birthday ng koreano mas naalala nyo keysa sa
birthday ko”. Millennials and Generation Z’s can relate to this meme, in this 21st century most
teenagers are already influenced by the culture of other countries, here in the Philippines most
teens are into Koreans, like k-pop, and k-dramas and their oppa’s. They are so into the life of
other races that they already forgot the hero that made our country what it is right now. June 19
is the birthday of Rizal but most of the teenagers probably don’t know that, but when you ask
them about when is the birthday of each members of a k-pop group like BTS, I bet that they can
answer you in just mere seconds. That’s the sad reality right now, we are all influenced and
consumed by other countries that we already forgot to remember ours. The second image or
meme, “ Hindi ako nag sakripisyong mamatay, para sa mga walang galang na kabataan”, if Dr.
Jose Rizal was alive right now I bet he would really say that. Young people nowadays tend to
have little or no respect and discipline to other people, especially in social media platforms you
could really see a lot of millennials and gen z ranting, trashtalking, bashing and disrespecting
other people. Online netiquette is non-existent when you are browsing on social media platforms,
and that’s the problem of our younger generation. Rizal’s era of young ones is way better than
the young ones today. Dr. Jose Rizal, once said “Ang kabataan ang pag-asa ng ating bayan”.
That is one of the famous line of Rizal, and the way I see the generation today I really don’t
know if we really are the hope of our country, Rizal sacrificed his life for our country, we should
show that us filipinos are respectful and disciplined, because if Rizal was alive right now he
would be happy if the attitude of filipino is like that. But we are still young and there’s still a lot
of room for improvement, its still not too late to change the mindset of our generation. We may
not be a genius like Rizal, but with unity and love for country in our own little way, we can
contribute for the future history of our country.
