ACTIVITY 03–Differentiating Professional Relationships

EMPLOYER TO EMPLOYEE RELATIONSHIPS

SCENARIO:

Jemal is a devout Muslim who wears the traditional head covering, the hijab. Most of the workers at
her place of employment have no problem with Jemal's dress. One colleague, however, Kalia,
constantly mocks her for her beliefs, and calls her names. At times when Jemal is fasting, Kalia keeps
putting food on her desk. Jemal gets very upset. She is uncomfortable with the situation and
sometimes becomes ill with worry and stays at home.

TIMELINE DISCUSSION

What responsibility does Jemal have to her employer?

Jemal's bears the responsibility to her Provide a workplace free from serious recognized hazards and
comply with standards, rules and regulations issued under the OSH Act. Examine workplace conditions
to make sure they conform to applicable OSHA standards. Make sure employees have and use safe tools
and equipment and properly maintain this equipment.

What rights should the company be protecting in this


workplace?

The right to a safe work environment, free from undue dangers. The right to a degree of privacy in your
personal matters. The right not to be discriminated against on grounds of your age, race, national origin,
gender, ethnicity, pregnancy, religion, or disability.

Should the other employees be involved in Kalia's


behaviour? Explain.

Self efficacy of Kalia’s can be defined as lack of ability in her to unite cross cultural teams. Kaila has been
into leadership position where she is unable to resolve the cross-cultural issues and her self efficacy is
not reflecting positive outcome. She is lacking ability to resolve issues and unite her team to make it
productive at workplace
FEEDBACK

Which part of this module you found interesting? Why?

Answer: For this module I found interesting is the how the employee and employer relationships so
important, because when the employees have a strong, healthy relationship with their employers, the
entire company benefits. Studies show that employees who have mutually respectful relationships with
their employers are more likely to be happy, loyal and productive in the long-run.

Which part of this module you consider challenging? Why?

Answer: For this module, I consider the employee to employer relationship challenging because, we’ll
learn why it's important to have good working relationships, how to build and maintain them, and even
find ways to work with people that you don't get on with.

REFLECTION
How to build great professional relationships?

Answer: To build a great professional relationship must to begin with trust because, when you trust
your team members can be open and honest in your thoughts and actions. And you don't have to
waste time or energy "watching your back. Secondly, respect because, when the teams working
together with mutual respect the value of one another's input, can find a solutions based on
collective insight, wisdom, and creativity. Furthermore, self-awareness, because taking
responsibility for your words and actions, and not letting your own negative emotions can impact
the people around you. In conclusion, open communication because, all good relationships
depend on open, honest communication. Whether you're sending emails or IMs, or meeting face-
to-face or on video calls, the more effectively you communicate with those around you, the
better you'll connect.
