Project 1. Prepare UTP cable for networking.


Task 1. Crimp and test a UTP cable.

1. Prepare a UTP cable that used to connect two computers directly.


2. Test the cable using cable taster.
3. Connect the two computers using the cable you prepare.

Project 2. Install and configure server 2003


Task 1. Install Server 2003

4. Install window server 2003 operating system on the server computer


5. Establish connections among the server and one client
6. Configure the server as a DNS and Active Directory for the server computer using ICT.com
as a domain name.
7. Configure server as DHCP with range of 192.168.1.2 to 192.168.1.5

Task 2. Configure the server

1. Create organization with the name ICT and add the following groups; G1, and G2.
2. Create and Add user; Asefa, and Solomon G1 group, Hana,and Reta, for G2Group.
3. Allow G1 group user to log on to the server (Allow log on locally permission).
4. Set the Access limitation time for G1 group users to access the network only during the evening,
early morning, or weekends. Let the other user to access the network at a work regular hours.
5. Join the client computer to the domain controller you created.
6. Show how to protect your server by firewall.

Task 3. Install and configure File and printer server

1. Create two folders for each group by the group name, share and give permission to access
the folder for specific group.(i.e. G1 group users should not access G2’s group folder)
2. Show how to Share resources through mapping logical network drives:
3. Install the printer on the server and allow the printer to be access only by G1 Group and try
to print using any G1 group account.

LEVEL III

Project Information

Given the necessary materials and supplies the candidate is expected to perform the following
project:

Recommended Assessment place: Well equipped IT lab with server environment

Project Title: - Server Configuration and Administration

Time allotted: 4:00 hrs

Task1:- Installation of Server Operating System

a. Connect the necessary peripheral devices of the Server Computer and make
ready for Server Operating System installation.
b. Make ready other two Computers by installing Operating System and necessary
software on them.
c. Install Windows Server 2003 Operating System on the Server Computer
d. Install the necessary drivers for the devices
e. Establish connections among the Server and the Clients
f. Configure the Server as a DNS and Active Directory for the Server Computer
using the COC.local as a domain name.

Task2:- Server Administration and Security Configuration

1. Create Groups of Computer using two group names FINANCE and ADMINISTRATION and
make sure that the Client Computers joined the groups.
2. Create Users and Passwords for the two Groups as follows:
A For FINANCE group, Users (COCUser1 and COCUser2), Password
(user1 and user2) respectively.
B For ADMINISTRATION group, Users (COCUser3 and COCUser4),
Password (user3 and user4) respectively.
3. Create user privileges to change their passwords at first login for Users COCUser3 and
COCUser4.

4. Set the Access limitation time for the FINANCE group users to access the network from
Monday to Friday from 8:00AM to 5:00PM only.
5. Add (join) the Client Computers to the Domain COC.local.
6. Turn on Windows Firewall for the Server Computer
