TYPES OF FLYWHEELS:-
1. HIGH VELOCITY FLYWHEEL:-
The angular velocity of these type of Flywheels comes between
30000 rpm to 60000 rpm. They contain magnetic levitation
bearings and need less maintenance. They are lighter in weight
low velocity flywheels. They are costly in comparison to Low
velocity Flywheels.
DISADVANTAGES:-
1) Complexity of durable and low loss bearings.
2) Mechanical stress and fatigue limits.
3) Material limits at around 700 M/Sec tip speed.
4) Potentially hazardous failure modes.
5) Short discharge time.
6) Current Flywheels have low specific energy.
GOVERNOR:-
A governor, or speed limiter or controller, is a device used to
measure and regulate the speed of a machine, such as an engine.
The function of governor is to regulate the mean speed of an
engine, when there are variations in the load e.g. when the load
on an engine increases, its speed decreases, therefore it becomes
necessary to increase the supply of working fluid.
CLASSIFICATION OF GOVERNOR
Application of Governor:-
1) Used in petrol and diesel engine.
2) Used in jet engine.
3) Marine engines.
4) Steam and gas turbines.
5) Hydraulic turbines.
Centrifugal Governor:-
A centrifugal governor is used to control the speed of rotating
machinery. One of the most common applications is in controlling
the RPM of an engine by regulating the fuel supply.
Conclusion:-
We are able to get the working, and mainly the field application of
the Flywheel and the Governor. We are able to understand the
basic concept of the Flywheel and the governor.
