➢ WHAT IS DIGITAL COMMUNICATION?
The process of transmitting information digitally by devices is Digital communication. It gives the
facility of video conferencing that saves a lot of effort, time, and money. It is easier, cheaper, and
faster as it can be done over large distances via the internet and other things. As compared to analog,
the implementation of hardware in digital circuits is more flexible.
More people connect to the internet than ever before. Communication between employees and clients
is no longer confined to just formal written communications or phone calls. Thanks to technology, we
can send and receive messages at any time of the day and from just about anywhere. A digital
workplace helps employees stay productive and engaged by offering a place to collaborate,
communicate and connect with others. This allows decisions that can be made, discussed and
implemented at speed, which increases the productivity of the workforce and their ability to serve
customers well.

 Email.
 Instant messaging.
 Project management apps.
 Video conferencing software.
 Audio notes.
 Intranet.
 Internal social media sites.
Digital communication also helps build an enhanced relationship with stakeholders at various levels,
leading to real-time communication more effectively. Customizable and scalable content – One of the
most valued benefits of digital communication is its cost effectiveness. The digital workplace is all
about the employees' ability to do their job by collaborating, communicating and connecting with
others. The goal is to forge productive business relationships within and beyond natural work groups
and to enable knowledge sharing across the organization.

➢ Advantages of Digital Communication


As the signals are digitized, there are many advantages of digital communication over analog
communication, such as −
 The effect of distortion, noise, and interference is much less in digital signals as they
are less affected.
 Digital circuits are more reliable.
 Digital circuits are easy to design and cheaper than analog circuits.
 The hardware implementation in digital circuits, is more flexible than analog.
 The occurrence of cross-talk is very rare in digital communication.
 The signal is un-altered as the pulse needs a high disturbance to alter its properties,
which is very difficult.
 Signal processing functions such as encryption and compression are employed in
digital circuits to maintain the secrecy of the information.
➢ Disadvantages Of Digital Communication

 There is high power consumption in digital communication.


 There is a requirement for synchronization in the case of synchronous modulation.
 There is a sampling error.
 The most common limitation of digital communication is that it requires more
transmission bandwidth. It is due to the higher data rate because of analog to digital
conversion.
 Digital communication requires analog to digital conversion at a high rate.
 There can be a possibility of miscommunication if a user doesn't understand something
