PC-PRO+® 98 Programming and Maintenance System
Itron’s PC-PRO+ 98 is a powerful set of tools used for programming meters, diagnosing problems,
and transferring meter data to other software applications for reporting and management analysis.

PC-PRO+ 98 is offered with two feature sets. The standard PC-PRO+ 98 system provides complete
programming and diagnostics for supported meters. The PC-PRO+ 98 Advanced system provides the
standard features along with enhanced features that are only available with the Advanced system.

PC-PRO+ 98 Standard Features:

> Programming Tools – Using the Program Editor, the user can easily navigate through the program
file components to configure metering features such as TOU schedules, meter display, load profile,
communication parameters, self-read schedules, and power quality. It also allows users to import and
export program files, create meter image files (MIF), and change numerous metering options at the time
the meter is programmed.
> Diagnostics – The diagnostic toolbox lets you analyze phase diagrams of the voltage and current supplied
to the site. Features such as verifying that the meter is correctly programmed and viewing current billing
data and display mode quantities online also provide valuable field tools.
> MeterKey™ – Using the MeterKey Card and the software, you can enable or disable the functions of
supported meters as needed. When you enable a MeterKey feature in a meter, the number of “keys”
remaining on the card is decremented. The MeterKey version 2.0 or higher software is automatically
installed when you install PC-PRO+ 98 5.1 or higher. Before you can use the MeterKey application, you
must also install the driver for the smart card reader. You order the meter upgrades separately and use a
smartcard reader and the PC-PRO+ 98 MeterKey software to change the meter features.
> Microsoft® Windows User Interface – The easy-to-use interface shortens employee training time.
Once the software and drivers are installed on your PC, you are ready to program!

PC-PRO+ 98 Advanced Features:

In addition to the standard features of PC-PRO+ 98, the PC-PRO+ 98 Advanced system offers the
following features:
> Reconfigure Devices – Selectively choose the metering components you want to reconfigure without
losing billing data and without affecting other program components.
> Print Reports – Print reports that contain program file information, meter status, and meter data.
®
> Load Profile Spreadsheets – Copy your load profile data into Microsoft Excel-compatible
spreadsheet files.
> MV-90 Export – Create files that can import load profile data into the MV-90 system.
> Security – To keep data secure, access to critical operations can be restricted to certain users through user
level IDs and passwords.
> Load Profile Graph – View up to eight load profile channels in a graphical or spreadsheet display. Zoom
in and out to adjust data precision.
PC-PRO+® Programming and Maintenance Software
The PC-PRO+ software can be used to configure Itron electricity meters not supported by PC-PRO+ 98. As
the industry leader in software tools for metering applications, Itron is setting the standard for advanced
metering. The PC-PRO+ application is included with the PC-PRO+ 98 software.

PRO-READ Reader Programmer

The PRO-READ DOS-based reader programmer can be used to program Itron metering devices, collect data,
perform diagnostics and maintenance, and transfer data to a master station. The PRO-READ software
programs devices using a program file created by the PC-PRO+ system. The PRO-READ software runs on a
laptop computer.

Field-Pro™ Field Programming Software

The Itron Field-Pro software is an easy-to-use tool for programming and reading supported devices. Field-Pro
also provides advanced metering diagnostics, as well as the ability to retrieve meter data.
> User Interface – Field-Pro is designed for ease-of-use. The Microsoft Windows user interface
consists of high-contrast graphics and function keys for easy selection and quick log on to the meters.
> Reading and Programming – The Field-Pro system uses program files that are created on a PC-PRO+ 98
master station and exported to a Field-Pro computer. The meter programming operations include
initializing devices, resetting demand registers, viewing and editing register data, and adjusting the
device clock.
> Device Diagnostics and Maintenance – The Field-Pro software can be used to check device operation and
perform several maintenance functions. SiteScan diagnostics can be viewed while you are logged on to a
meter. This function provides a real-time view of the meter measurement and meter installation
information.
> Device Status – The Device Status information available in Field-Pro is determined by the device you are
logged on to. You can select meter status, device activity, device errors, advanced status, MeterKey status,
and events. Once you make your selection, then the appropriate information for that selection appears.
> Synchronize Files – The Synchronize Files feature allows you to download meter program files from
PC-PRO+ 98 to the Field-Pro computer and upload meter reading data files from Field-Pro to the master
station PC. Synchronization sends the Field-Pro Settings, DST, Billing Schedule, and Activity Log.
> System Security – To keep data secure, access to certain devices can be restricted to certain users through
user-level IDs and passwords.

EnergyAudit™ Data Acquisition and Analysis System
Now you have the power to see and manage the data you need. EnergyAudit is a powerful set of tools that
you can use to acquire and analyze volumes of load profile, register, and power quality data. EnergyAudit
provides the tools you and your customers need for better decisions and building business partnerships.
> Data Analysis Viewers – Load profile and register viewers display real-time information in graphical
and spreadsheet formats; power quality viewers analyze voltage profiles, operating ranges, and load
imbalances, and identify equipment failure.
> Database Configuration – Configures service points and networks to identify metering devices and
define parameters for calling meters and retrieving data.
> Data Acquisition – Automatically calls metering devices and retrieves data based on predefined service
point, network, and call group schedules.
> Import Queue Processor – Runs continuously to import data files from devices and meter image files.
> Harmonics Manager – Suggests the source of a problem and guides the installation of filtering
equipment to prevent future problems.

> Data Export – Exports load profile and register data in MINI-MASTER or MV-90 HHF format.

PC-PRO+ 98 Views Load Profile and Billing Analysis Software

The Itron PC-PRO+ 98 Views software is a load profile and billing data analysis tool that gives you the power
to see your energy usage.
> User Interface – PC-PRO+ 98 Views features an easy-to-use Microsoft Windows interface with
high-contrast graphics.
> Load Profile Data – You can view load profile data in graphical format and table formats. The load
profile feature allows you to view historical energy consumption. Energy demand can be displayed by
interval, hourly, daily, weekly, or monthly blocks of information.
> Address Book – The address book features allow you to define and save connection settings for stand-
alone and networked metering service points.
> Meter Image File – Open and view data in a meter image file (MIF) as if you are online with the
meter. You can export the data in MV-90 HHF format for use by a third-party system from a meter
image file.
> Data Export – While you are online with a meter, you can save data as a MIF or export data
in MV-90 HHF format.
> Toolbox Support – This feature allows you to analyze phasor diagrams of the voltage and current
being supplied to the site. This information represents the actual electrical signal seen by the meter.
You can use this information to verify and analyze multiphase system performance.
