ACTIVITY 2

At this juncture, you are expected to do the following tasks!

1) Go back to your answers on the two pop-up questions.
 Have you experienced being discriminated by someone because your beliefs,
customs, and practices aren’t the same?

Reflection about Mental Health

Corona virus disease has caused a lot of problems in our education, in our social life and
in our mental health. As a student, I can definitely say that coVid-19 has a huge impact to us. In
education, student like me are struggling more because of online classes just because of this
pandemic. It is really hard for us and it is a big impact on us especially we as a student, unlike
face to face classes. Lack of internet and technology are the very big hindrances to us students to
focus on studying through online classes. In social life, interacting with others are prohibited
because of the said pandemic. It also a hindrance to our parents because they cannot go both to
work for us to have enough money for our basic necessities. Last but not the least, mental health
of a students get worst. Sleepless nights, skipping food, a lot of activities to do are the things that
make students forget to take care of themselves specially our mental health.

ACTIVITY 4

Reflection in Eyeball Tattoo

According on the video presented, an eyeball tattoo is dangerous let’s just say that , no matter
how safe something is , you just never want to take chances with your losing your sight , limb or
life unless worth it . I don’t see morals being involved with most tattoos. However I feel that
eyeball tattoos are a bad idea - too many risks for complications. You only have only one set of
eyes and you owe it to yourself to look after them. Ink on/in the body cannot be moral or
immoral. It just is, what it represents can be moral or immoral. Tattooing on the eyeball seems
stupid to me, with it’s significant risks of infection and losing sight.

ACTIVITY 5
Moral Act Right
Morality claims our lives. It makes claims upon each of us that are stronger than the claims of
law and takes priority over self-interest. As human living in the world, we have basic duties and
obligations. There are certain things we must do and certain things we must not do. Any actions
that result from deliberate choice between good and evil or between different degrees of
goodness is a moral act.

Interview
Questions:
1. What is the ilocano concept of Bain Ken basol?
2. In what extent or circumstances you can experience Bain and basol?

Responses:
Informant#1
Questions:
1. What is the ilocano concept of Bain Ken basol?
Dagitoy duwa nga Ilocano nga sao ket agpada da nga
"noun" iti usar na.

2. In what extent or circumstances you can experience Bain and basol?

Most of the time, I am experiencing "Bain" when I am talking to someone whom I am not closed
with. On the other hand, I can experience to have "basol" whenever I did something wrong or
whenever I lie to my parents but at the end of the day they will find out or know what is the truth
behind that lie.

Informant#2
1) the concept of "Bain Ken basol" is directly connected to each other. For instance , if you
committed mistake to some one that will be the reason that you will feel shame with that certain
individual.
2)for example some one help you, they give all the support you need but you take mistake and
that mistake changed all the situation . You betrayed them, so even you not intended to do that
you will ashamed of.
Informant#3
1. For me the ilokano term BAIN is what a person felt when you first meet someone or ashame\
shy in other word; while BASOL in Ilokano is a sin wherein you have done that is wrong or not
appropriate to others.
2. I experienced this BAIN when I first crushed or when I started to like someone and I feel
"mabain" when she talks to me while "basol" is when I lied something to my parents and that I
had broke a promise I made to them.

Informant#4
1. The Ilocano concept of Bain is the feeling of someone when they feel uncomfortable to their
surrounding like when they felt embarrassed or shy. On the other hand, the Ilocano concept of
Basol is something either accidentally or intentionally done by someone that can harm others'
life.
2. When you saw your crush in the canteen, and he/she is next to you, then you felt shy. This is
Bain. When you are playing soccer with your friends, then you kicked the ball too powerful and
accidentally hit the window of your Ugly Neighbor. This is Basol.

Informant#5
1. Bain basically means to be "ashamed" and basol means "sin". Bain and basol are often used in
cases wherein it is ok to do something for as long as you're not making a mistake/sin. If you're
not making a sin, then there's nothingto be ashamed of.

3. If there's a food gathering around your neighborhood, some people are afraid or ashamed
of falling in line to have some food. But then, it is ok to do so because it's not a sin.

Informant#6
1. Bain and basol are both an ilocano term wherein bain is defined as the sense of awkwardness
or apprehension that a person consistently feel when being approached by others. It is also a
psychological state that causes a person to feel discomfort in social situations like socialization
with other people in a ways that it interferes with their enjoyment that results from avoidance of
social contacts. On the other hand, basol is an offense or misdeed that someone has done and that
he or she is responsible with that act.

2. Due to new or unfamiliar situations you can experience “bain” like meeting other people for
the first time, speaking in front of a large number of people, and even asking help or favor to
someone. While “basol” is when you did not fulfill your promise to someone, badmouthing,
critizing a person based on his or her status in life, bullying and many more.

Informant#7
1. What is the ilocano concept of Bain ken basol?
The ilocano concept of Bain Ken basol are words that describes the consequences of every
action. Iti makungkuna Tayo nga Bain ket tay rikna Tayo ti bagi wenno iti sabali nga tao in terms
of doing something unacceptable or nakababain nga aramid. Ti Bain ket like feelings that can
make yourself down and also end up saying nasa huli Ang pagsisisi. While the word Basol is
something you did to someone or somebody that will cause harmful or unforgettable to them. Ti
basol ket mabalin nga Sao, aramid Ken panonot nga isu ti banag nga di Tayo pulos nga haan nga
maiwasan. They are both ilokano words nga existing through our own actions or mouths. Be
careful.

2. In what extent or circumstances you can experience Bain and basol?

We are all experiencing Bain and basol in everything or someone. But most of the time we
experience it through our actions. The Bain can happen in different ways: first, when you are
going to a party or celebration then you saw different new people then you feel Bain in yourself
that's why you can't go na. Second, when you see someone nga nakautangam or nakabasolam
then you feel Bain. And lastly, when someone scold you and shout you in front of people, then
you feel Bain in yourself and also in other people. However, the basol experience in different
ways. First when you did something Hindi nakakaaya or nakasakit ka Ng iba that's basol and
second is when you disobey God especially the 10 commandments of God.

Informant#8
1.Bain is not just being ashame or shy. It is imbedded in the ilocano concept of honour. Basol is
something that is being committed which is against the ethical standard or norm.

2. I can feel "bain" if i am in the crowd of people and if i have done something which is against
of ethical standard, and that occurs the guilt inside of me which then is called basol.

Informant#9
1.For us ilocanos, Bain is term referred to "shame.". For instance, if you commit an act that is
against the standard norm. In ethics it is a human act that is going away from what is ethical or
moral. In contrast, the term basol is "denotatively" a sin. Thus, sin is a human act also that
against the law and the commandments. The effects of "basol" is Bain.

2.If you commit a sin, you are "nakababain" is the sense that what you did is against the norms or
standard of conduct. Ethically speaking, whoever commits sin is nakababain.

Informant#10
1. What is the ilocano concept of Bain Ken basol?
For me Bain or hiya in tagalog is normally defined and gloss to close in shyness or shame and it
is one of the Filipino values. While Basol or kasalanan in Tagalog is defined as the behaviour
that is against the rules of a religion or morally wrong. Basol can be a crime, fault, evil, misdeed
and more. In short Basol is an act which is unrighteous or against what is right.

2. In what extent or circumstances you can experience Bain and basol?

In my own experience, I experience Bain when I feel slighted, or for example I am invited to
attend a birthday party and my gift wasn't that expensive and my co-guest had the most
expensive gifts. In that situation my Bain or hiya can be done. What circumstances I can
experience basol? There are too many circumstances but I am going to give 1 example. Your
mother is sick and you need money but you don't know where you can get a money. All you
could think about was selling your body or stealing just to get him treated. If you have done this
thing it is already a sin even if you have good intentions but still you did something wrong it is
still a sin. Even if it is a white sin it is still a sin.

Instances in my life that I made decisions
primarily invoking my emotion is that, when
we have a family problem but I choose to go
to my friends instead of find a solution to our
problem.

Discussion
1. When do you usually make decisions invoking emtions?
 Making decisions are hard especially if we don't have enough knowledge. Some
says that "experience is the best teacher" and that is indeed right. For example, we
made a mistake which is in the past, and the same thing WILL happen again but
since we already experienced the mistake, we'll make a way to prevent that from
happening. Me, I usually make decisions invoking my emotions when things are
serious. If there's a big problem, and I already experienced that, I take time to
reminisce my past experience and learn from it. That way, it was easier for me to
make my decisions.

2. What do you use more often in making decisions? Reason or feelings?

 We make decisions more with emotion than with reason. Our actions are much
more influenced by emotions than by reason – hence binge shopping, emotional
eating, having one more beer and staying with partners we know are no good for
us.
3. Were there instances when your feelings seemed to have led you to problematic
decisions?
 Yes, most of the time. But don’t let to stress our-self. Our emotional reactions to
our daily decisions may be useful in directing our attention toward what matters
the most. But, strong feelings may lead us to make unwise decision.

ACTIVITY 5
REFLECTION ON THE SONG
“KAPALIGIRAN”
BY: ASIN

Masdan Mo Ang Kapaligiran was performed by Asin, a Filipino folk rock band, in 1978 to
prompt the awareness of the people on different environmental impacts of various human
activities. This song has been an eye-opener on nature’s response to man’s violent use of
environmental resources. Currently, the severity and intensity of natural calamities and disasters
are increasing over the time. In one part of the song, the composer suggested pondering these
environmental impacts as well as the effects of human activities which may possibly
compromise the ability of the next generation in meeting their own needs with the use of the
same environmental resources. Parallel to this concept of the composer, sustainable development
seeks to minimize the destruction of environment and improving the quality of life without
discrediting the succeeding generations. In this paper, the effects of human activities to the
environment and future generations will be addressed and will be correlated to the concept of
sustainable development which mainly considers the capacity of the environment to deal with the
consequence of the economic systems. The song states that we humans do not notice other things
that are harmful to our environment and even to nature that are all man –made. The world is a
gift from our only creator and entrusted us to take care of it.
Our environment is relevant to this song, how our country's nature changes throughout the years
because people don't take care of them. They think that its “JUST” a river so they throw all their
trash and leave it there, they don't care how the water turns from blue to black. How about the
children who are being born now? will they still smell the freshness of the air? would there still
be trees for them to climb on? Think about it, if we were the "nature" would you be happy being
abused? One should learn how to love the creations of God because when the day comes that
nature gets its revenge, we all know what might happen. Therefore, future generations will no
longer experience or even see the beauty of nature.
