How are you travelling to school today?

My school is in Manhattan, but I live on Staten

Island. It takes about 25 minutes to get to
school. I travel 8.4 km across the New York
Brad Harbor on the Staten Island Ferry. There’s
Wi-Fi on the ferry, so I’m using my tablet at the
moment. I like looking at the sights on the way
to school – the ferry is passing the Statue of
Liberty now!

I’m from Japan and many people take the

subway (the underground) when they go out
or go to school – even young children! I’m

travelling with my six-year-old sister now. She
likes going on the subway, but she doesn’t like
carrying her bag with all her textbooks! A big
part of Japanese culture is helping people, so
we know we can always ask people for help.

I’m so excited because I’m going back to

school today! I’m from the Nenet region in
northern Russia but for nine months of the

area of Russia. The helicopter is arriving now
to take us to school to start the new year!
