1. Overview
LMS Imagine.Lab Sysdm is an Enterprise Solution for the Collaborative Management of Models,
Data and related artifacts in Model Based System Engineering. LMS Sysdm stands for System
Data Manager. This document provides step by step process to install and configure LMS Sysdm
client for Independent and Network installation.
2. Prerequisites
Click Release Notes link, if you would like to go through the Release notes for the current release.
Click Help link against the New Installation button, if you would like to go through the LMS Sysdm
client installation guide.
LMS Sysdm shows the existing LMS Sysdm client installations (if any) for your reference.
For Linux:
Insert the LMS Sysdm installation CD into CD drive. Browse the CD and double click the
InstallSysDM.sh file. This shows the existing LMS Sysdm client installations (if any) for your
reference.
Click Install button to proceed for new client installation or click Quit button to abort the installation.
By clicking Install button, the installer shows Welcome Message screen.
Go through the License agreement. If you agree with the licensing terms and want to proceed
with the installation, select I accept the agreement option and click Next button.
Independent Installation: By this, each client is installed with the entire executable and application
maintained data. Executable will not be shared with other clients and exclusively used by the client
where the installation is made.
Network Installation: By this, a common client is installed and the server settings and client
upgrade will be shared by many clients in the network. Application maintained data will not be stored
in this common client. Application maintained data will be stored independently in each client system
which is connected to this common client. You cannot directly use this installation. You have to install
a local client to use the LMS Sysdm application (Refer LMS Sysdm_Local_Client_Installation_guide
document for more details).
Select the type of installation as Independent Installation or Network Installation and click Next
button.
By default LMS Sysdm installs the client under C:\Program Files (x86)\ LMS\Sysdm_Client directory
for Windows OS and /opt/LMS/Sysdm _Client directory for Linux OS. If you want to change the
installation directory to some other folder, click Browse… button. This opens OS File Browser dialog
box. Browse and choose the directory where you want to install. The selected directory will be
displayed in Destination directory field. Alternatively if you know the installation directory path, you
can type the directory path in Destination directory field. If the destination directory folder is not
available, LMS Sysdm will create the destination directory. After this click Next button.
For Windows:
This opens Select Start Menu Folder dialog box.
By default, start menu folder will be LMS Imagine.Lab Sysdm [Client]. If you want to change the
default start menu, type the menu name in the start menu folder field. Click Next button. This opens
Select Additional Tasks dialog box.
By default, symlinks will be created under /home/<user name>/bin directory. If you want to change
the default directory, click Browse… button. This opens OS File Browser dialog box. Browse and
choose the directory where you want to place the Symlinks. The selected directory will be displayed
in Destination directory field. Click Next button. This opens Select Additional Tasks dialog box.
Select whether you want to create desktop and / or Quick launch icon by checking the option against
it. Click Next button.
Select HSQL database, if you are not going to perform LMS Imagine.Lab System
TM
Synthesis software operations. It is an embedded database and no additional
installation required.
Select PostgreSQL 8.4 database, if you are going to perform LMS System Synthesis
operations, as LMS System Synthesis does not support HSQL database. However, for
LMS Sysdm operations, it is not mandatory. A separate installer will be launched to install
PostgreSQL, if it is not already installed.
For Independent installation, the database selection will create and use the database in the selected
tool. For Network Installation, this will restrict all the local clients to use the selected database. If you
After selecting the database option, click Next button to continue. LMS Sysdm client installer
extracts the installation files from the installer and the progress will be shown with the file names in
the following screen.
After extraction, installer starts the installation with third-party packages (if applicable).
LMS Sysdm client installer prompts for the required parameters for the PostgreSQL installation.
Click Next button. LMS Sysdm starts PostgreSQL installation with warning message.
Installer will start the installation of PostgreSQL database. LMS Sysdm shows the progress of the
installation.
After completion of PostgreSQL Installation (after the above screen is closed), PostgtreSQL
installation confirmation message is shown for confirmation.
Click OK button. This will navigate you back to the LMS Sysdm client installation > Information
screen.
After identifying the local installer, click Next button in the Information screen to complete the client
installation.
After identifying the local installer, click Next button in the Information screen to complete the client
installation.
Also you perform silent installation without creating any short cut entry. Use the following command
to perform this:
<LMS Sysdm Installer> –q –dir < empty directory path > -Vapp.shortCutsEnabled=false
For example,
20150116_Sysdm_EC_14_0_0.exe -q -dir ":\Program Files (x86)\LMS
\SysDM_Client " -Vapp.shortCutsEnabled=false
Do not install LMS Sysdm in silent mode if you want to perform LMS
System Synthesis functions.
In Windows:
Select Configure Client from the Windows Start menu > All Programs > LMS Imagine.Lab
Sysdm[Client].
In Linux:
Select Configure Client from Applications or Click Configure Client desktop icon from the client
installation directory.
Initially LMS Sysdm will prompt you to locate the RLM license server.
Enter the system name or IP address (with port number if required) of the RLM license server and
press Save button. This will save the RLM server details and LMS Sysdm shows the confirmation
message. Also you can set the system environment variable LMS_LICENSE = @<RLM server
name> to specify the license server. For example, [email protected].
Press OK button. This opens client settings dialog box. Client settings dialog box has the following in
the side bar:

If you select HSQL as database for your local client installation, after the installation you can immediately launch
the LMS Sysdm client application; you need not configure the client. If you have selected PostgreSQL as
database for your local client installation, the server connection details will be populated in Connection Setting tab
in LMS Sysdm client settings dialog.
After saving the server connection details, LMS Sysdm shows confirmation message. These
details will be used by LMS Sysdm local client installation during auto configuration.
After the initial Server Connection detail settings, if you make any
changes, the changes will not be propagated to the auto-configured
local clients. Those local clients have to manually re-configure with
the modified connection settings.
After completing the client settings, try to launch the application by:
In Windows:
Selecting Sysdm Client from the Windows Start menu > Programs > LMS Imagine.Lab
Sysdm[Client], or
Double click on the LMS Sysdm Client.desktop icon from your client installation
directory
This launches LMS Sysdm About dialog box first and then the LMS Sysdm Main GUI with Login
