Rural Outreach Final File

Tanisha Shrivas submitted a rural outreach report on her visit to Baroli village to Prof. Manish Sharma. The report details her observations on the village lifestyle, culture, education system, and challenges faced. It notes the village lacks sufficient public toilets and sanitation. While a private hospital is located nearby, no health camps have been organized in the past 2 years. Agriculture is the main occupation, but villagers face issues with connectivity, electricity, water shortage, and lack of support from government policies. Possible solutions discussed include filing complaints about electricity shortage, practicing rainwater harvesting, and asking local leaders to address the issues.

Rural Outreach Report- Baroli 4

Introduction
Engineers are the members of society that are engaged in systematic
development of technology, and application of that technology to the benefit of
society. It is a critically important responsibility that engineers have.
Engineering activities can have profound impact on society. Engineering cannot
operate in a vacuum separate from society. By its very nature engineering is
bound up with society and human behaviour.
Hence, the students must become knowledgeable on how society is organized,
how it functions, what are the issues it faces and how it uses or depends on
technology. The procedure comprises of field visits, case studies, analysing
government policies, discussion with field officers and NGO executives.
Engineers have always played a role in improving society through technology, in
short, making the world a more liveable place. The term basically means the
village where 80% of Indian population lives. Our country is farming depended.
On one hand we are developing in scientific areas, on other hand we are dealing
with cultivation. The Government has tried to bring many reforms for the
farmers but still much has to be done.
Through the rural outreach the student has tried to find the problems of the rural
India and find solution for the cause. The students are able to develop
engineering skills to inculcate novel ideas for uplifting the lifestyle of rural areas
as a contribution to our society. To facilitate the process, the students go to
village and prepare detailed study.

Overview Of Village

Baroli comes under Baroli Panchayati belongs to Indore division. People there
were mainly indulged in activities like farming and cattle farming. Employment
was not very well available for every citizen of village although various central
government schemes were giving advantages to many of them.
The availability of public toilets was less as well as lack of sanitation was
observed. Surprisingly, the hospital facilities are very well managed and
maintained by a very enthusiastic young doctor in arogyam.

The village has basic sewage problem as well as open drainage system creating
unhealthy health conditions for localities.
The village is overall compact and has people with friendly nature. The streets
have basic food stalls, general stores, clothing etc. The basic issue in the village
is health and hygiene.

affected by malnutrition & different diseases.

(3) Activity: Background information of People and area.

The location code or village code of Baroli village is 476173. Baroli village is
located in Sawer tehsil of Indore district in Madhya Pradesh, India. It is situated
18km away from the sub-district headquarter Sawer (tehsildar office) and 12km
away from district headquarter Indore. The total geographical area of village is
352.18 hectares. Baroli has a total population of 1,864 peoples, out of which
male population is 985 while female population is 879.

 Problems faced by people

• A smaller health care workforce and a lack of specialty

care Funds issue
•Insufficient or lack of health insurance coverage
Lack of public transportation
Low health literacy
Connectivity
Electricity
Water shortage
These were the problems faced by the people Other than these they faced
some issue buying a tractor ,there were some budget issue which lead them in
debt
3-year-old child facing some mental problem
Expenses are more than earning, debt is there which is still going on due to these
issues
The main earning come from agriculture in which they are facing problem since
COVID as they were not having that much money they were unable to sow
soyabean seeds which is main grain they grow.
Connectivity is a must factor as it connects rural area from cities. Roads are
there but not in proper condition
Rural Outreach Report- Baroli 8

 Solution Domain
There are some possible solutions for the above-mentioned problems. The
solutions include, filing a complaint regarding the electricity shortage to the CM
of the state.
The villagers should practice rainwater harvesting. This would help them save
water for future use. They should also dig wells where the groundwater level is
high. They should avoid wastage of water.
The Sarpanch of the village should ask the high authorities to improve the
network connectivity of the village. This way the people would be able to
connect with the outside world. Also, the business of the people would flourish.
The youngsters should be trained to use the latest technology so that they come
up with new ideas and innovations to make the lives of the people easier.
Lack of public transportation is there so it is required to improve services related
to transport as well.

CONCLUSION
Through this rural outreach program we went village Baroli and identified their
lifestyle and few problems around.
Although the village had all the basic facilities but still it was not ample enough.
They had electricity but it was not regular they had hospitals and schools, but
they were not maintained up to date.
The village is important because it is the primary sector of agricultural
production for our country. The village is the backbone of India’s economy. It
also plays a major role in maintaining the ecological balance of the
environment. The village people are very hardworking and thus they must have
a good source of upliftment. Like the village’s schools and clinics should be
maintained and increased in number. The farmers should be facilitated by
helping them to leverage their sales, make them notified about the modern
techniques used in farming, and give them compensation and knowledge of the
true market price of their crops. There are a number of serious problems being
faced by the villagers. People in the villages are devoid of various facilities
which are a hindrance in their development. The government must make efforts
to facilitate the villages with modern facilities so that the people living in those
areas can also enjoy a clean and comfortable life. authorities to come forward
and uplift the medical, educational, and farming facilities in the village.
