Impersonal Passive

Objekat postaje subjekat SHE


prvi glagol prebacujemo u pasiv odgovarajućeg vremena (ovde je Present Simple)
drugi glagol se prebacuje u odgovarajući oblik INFINITIVA prema sledećoj kombinaciji
vremena:

Present simple, Present Simple = present infinitive

Present Simple, Present Continuous = continuous infinitive

Present Simple, Past Simple = perfect infinitive

Present Simple, Past Continuous = perfect continuous infinitive

Present Simple, Present Perfect = perfect infinitive

Present Simple, Present Perfect Cont.= perfect continuous infinitive

Present Simple , Future Simple = present infinitive


Present Simple, Future Cont. = continuous infinitive

Primeri:

People understand that she moved to Spain.


She is understood to have moved to Spain.

Everybody says that he is planning to retire.


He is said to be planning to retire.

Ako je uvodni glagol u Past Simple, kombinacija vremena je sledeća:

Past Simple, Past Simple = present infinitive

Past Simple, Past Continuous = continuous infinitive

Past Simple, Past Perfect = perfect infinitive

Past Simple, Past Perfect Continuous = perfect continuous infinitive

Primeri:

People thought that he had moved to Italy.


He WAS THOUGHT to have moved to Italy.

They understood that the Government was preparing a new plan.


The Government was understood to be preparing a new plan.

Pasivni oblici infinitiva se koriste kada je u drugom delu recenice pasiv.

They believe that the animals were killed.


The animals are believed TO HAVE BEEN KILLED.

They expect that the law will be passed soon.


The law is expected TO BE PASSED soon.

Turn the sentences into impersonal passive:

1. Many people think that Paris is the most beautiful city in the world.
2. Everybody thought that the book had been destroyed.
3. They claim that this engine will be twice as powerful as the previous one.
4. We believe that he has had special knowledge which may have been useful to the police.
5. People believe that dogs are clever animals.
6. People say that Charles has been drinking too much lately.
7. People expect that this law will change sooner or later.
8. Everybody says that he settled the business
9. The newspapers reported that the body had been identified by some relatives.
10. Everybody knew that Sally had been telling him lies
11. Everybody understands that she got divorced.
12. The police believe that the thieves are hiding somewhere in the town
13. They expect that the Prime Minister will come tomorrow.
14. People believe that the children have been hiding for 2 weeks.
15. They consider that sixteen is too young to get married.
16. They expect that the new sports stadium will be finished soon.
17. They believed that the athlete was cheating.
18. We expect the plane will be taking off with very little delay
