period not to exceed 14 days and/or as recommended by paint

manufacturer.

5.1.3. Temperature sensitive polymerization paint materials must be stored in

air conditioned storage area to maintain the temperature as
recommended in the Manufacturer’s Data Sheet.

5.1.4. Each paint container should be marked in accordance with 09-SAMSS-

060

5.1.5. Paint shall not be used from a container showing a sign of leakage.

5.1.6. Paints which have exceeded the shelf life shall be set aside and not to be
used.

5.2. General Requirements

5.2.1. Ensure that supervisor and coating applicator hold valid coating
certification card issued by Saudi Aramco.

5.2.2. Saudi Aramco Paint Data Sheet and MSDS for coating system (APCS)
are always available at site.

5.2.3. Compressor air supply shall be free of oil, moisture and contamination. As
a minimum, the inspector shall check and approved the air quality at the
start and mid-point of each 8-hour period. This shall be determined as
below.

(Attach a piece of blotter or absorbent paper to a clip board, then hold it

approximately 45-60cm in front of the blast nozzle during air flow only,
with a nozzle pressure of 388 kPa (50 psig) for approximately one minute.
Satisfactory results shall be no water or oil contamination on the blotter.)

5.2.4. Blasted or Sanded areas are cleaned of any contaminants by brushing or

by blowing with clean, dry, and oil-free compressed air.

5.2.5. All edges of the original coatings are feathered out at least 50mm beyond
bare metal.

5.2.6. Gloss of existing coating are removed by sanding or by any equivalent

means prior to over coating.

5.2.7. Paint shall not be applied if one of the following conditions exist ( unless
paint is specifically formulated for averted condition):

Doc. No. MS-FBE-001 Rev.00

a. Substrate temperature is less than 10°C of the temperature limit given

in the applicable Saudi Aramco Data Sheet.
b. Substrate temperature less than 3°C above the dew point.
c. Maximum substrate temperature during paint application shall not
exceed Paint Manufacturer recommendations as per Technical Data
Sheet

5.2.8. Paint shall not be applied during adverse weather conditions such as; but
not restricted to the following.

a. Wind is strong enough to blow sand, salt spray or other foreign matter
to the surface being painted.
b. Wind is strong enough to cause dry spray or otherwise seriously
disturb the spray pattern when application by spray gun.
c. Rain.
