LEEA REFERENCE LIBRARY – British and International Standards

January 2011

The following gives details of British and International Standards held in the LEEA Reference
Library. This includes most of the standards connected with Lifting Equipment and many of
indirect interest. During the course of its work in the preparation of standards, the Association
also obtains standards on other subjects and these are also included. However, the list is not
guaranteed to be comprehensive. We are therefore always ready to consider additions and
welcome comments as to our standard holding.

The list is arranged in seven sections, each of which are in numerical sequence and give
details of the year of issue, title, amendment number(s) or status and date(s).

Section 1 lists current British Standards prefixed BS

Section 2 lists current miscellaneous British Standard Publications

Section 3 lists current British/European Standards prefixed BS EN

Section 4 lists current British/European/International Standards prefixed BS EN ISO

NOTE: TRANSPOSED HARMONISED STANDARDS –

Lists of transposed harmonised for the purposes of compliance with EU Directives are published
at irregular intervals by the DTI. Copies of the list, entitled ‘Machinery – Transposed Harmonised
Standards’ are available on request from the DTI’s Business in Europe Hotline, telephone 0117
944 4888

The standards in Sections 3 and 4 of this list marked with an asterisk are those Harmonised
Standards held by the Association.

Section 5 lists current British/International Standards prefixed BS ISO

Section 6 lists current international Standards prefixed ISO

NOTE: Sections 1 to 6 inclusive are constantly monitored to ensure that the standards remain current
and are complete with all amendments issued.

Section 7 lists details of obsolescent, withdrawn and superseded standards. These are
retained for reference purposes only for as long as it is considered equipment in
compliance with them remains in service. This enables them to be used to
specify replacements or to check in-service equipment.

NOTE: OBSOLESCENT - standard still published, not subject to revision by amendment and
considered unsuitable for new equipment
SUPERSEDED - replaced by a newer standard, which may be of the same number or an
alternative number
WITHDRAWN - standard no longer current
