Zone of Proximal Development

Vygotsky proposed the zone of proximal development, which is the difference between what a learner can do independently and what they can achieve with guidance and collaboration. Scaffolding provides temporary support tailored to the learner's abilities to help them master new skills. Vygotsky also studied how language and culture influence cognitive development, proposing that higher mental functions are socially and culturally constructed.
