4.2 Activity “PASS THE BOX’

The student will play “PASS THE BOX” wherein they will pass the box and
when the music stops, whoever has the box will answer a question.

3. it is a part of the story where the characters finally have to face and solve the

What are literary elements?
 Literary elements are the things that all literature- whether it’s a news article, a
book, or a poem absolutely have to have.
 Literary elements are the fundamental building blocks of writing, and they play an
important role in helping us write, read and understand.

Top 9 Literary Elements


1. Language- defined as a system of communicating ideas and feelings through
signs, sounds, gesture and/or marks.
2. Plot- defined as the sequence of events that occurs from the first line to the
last
Plot arc has six elements:
a. Beginning/Exposition- Beginning of a story, introduces characters
b. Conflict- main problem of a story (there are two types of conflict Major
conflict and Minor conflict)
c. Rising Action- facing and conquering minor conflicts
d. Climax- face and solve the major conflict and where the hero will either
succeed or totally fail.
e. Falling Action- it happens after the climax.
f. Resolution/Denouement- conclusion of the story

3. Mood- defined as the emotion or feeling that readers get from reading the
words on page
4. Setting- defined as simply as the time and location in which the story takes
place
5. Theme-
6. Point of view – it is the position of the narrator in relationship to the plot of a
piece of literature
a. First person
b. Second person
c. Third person limited
d. Third person omniscient
7. Narrator- all literature has a narrator even if that narrator isn’t named or an
active part of the plot.
8. Conflict- It is the central struggle that motivates the character and leads to a
works climax.
a. Explicit conflict – obvious moment where something goes wrong
and character have to fix it.
b. Implicit conflict- find the conflict that’s motivating the narrator.

As you read a story:


1. Identify the main character
2. Decide the conflict they face
3. Look for steps they take to settle that conflict
4. See if the steps cause other conflict
5. Watch for clues and try to predict what the characters will do
6. Enjoy the buildup of suspense
7. Put yourself in the story
8. Decide if you would have solved the conflict in the same way

9. Characters - literature has to have at least one character, which can be a


person, an object or animal.
a. Protagonist – It is the main character
b. Antagonist- characters that oppose the protagonist in some way.
