Construction safety and health officer
- means any employee/worker trained and, in addition to their regular duties and responsibilities, tasked by his employer to implement occupational safety and health programs in accordance with the provisions of the Occupational Safety and Health Standards (OSHS). DUTIES OF THE SAFETY MAN Under 1047 of Rule 1040 of OSH Standards
•The principal function of the Safety Man
is to act as the employers' principal assistant and consultant in the application of programs to remove hazards from the workplace and to correct unsafe work practices. For this purpose, the Safety Man has the following duties: DUTIES OF THE SAFETY MAN Serves as Secretary of the Health and Safety Committee. As such, he shall:
a. prepare minutes of meeting;
b. report status of recommendations made; c. notify members of the meetings; and d. submit to the employer a report of the activities of the committee, including recommendations made. DUTIES OF THE SAFETY MAN
•Acts in an advisory capacity
on all matters pertaining to health and safety for the guidance of the employer and the workers. DUTIES OF THE SAFETY MAN • Conducts investigation of accidents as member of the Health and Safety Committee and submits his separate report and analysis of accidents to the employer.
- The Safety Officer will conduct a
safety investigation to determine root causes, what procedures may have gone wrong, and to gather the evidence necessary to identify the cause of the accidents. DUTIES OF THE SAFETY MAN • Coordinates all health and safety training programs for the employees and employer.
• Conducts health and safety
inspection as member of the committee. He is in-charge of inspecting site conditions to determine if hazards are present and to establish procedures and policies to overcome those hazardous situations. DUTIES OF THE SAFETY MAN
•Maintains or helps in the
maintenance of an efficient accident record system and coordinates actions taken by supervisors to eliminate accident causes. DUTIES OF THE SAFETY MAN • Provides assistance to government agencies in the conduct of safety and health inspection, accident investigation or any other related programs.
• For purposes of effectiveness in a
workplace where full-time safety man is required, he shall report directly to the employer. DUTIES OF THE OTHER ROLE SAFETY OF SAFETY MAN OFFICERS
• Develop, implement and enforce policies that reduce
the risk of accidents. • Responsible for keeping policies up to date, meeting the latest standards and establishing new ones from time to time as more and newer risks are discovered. • Conducts toolbox meetings • Promotes safe practices at the job site • Enforces safety guidelines • Conducts job hazards analysis.
