Introduction
ANSYS Additive provides the ability to perform simulations of additive manufacturing print
processes. This guide includes prerequisites for installing ANSYS Additive as well as
detailed installation instructions. Additionally, license server installation and registration
instructions are included.
Note: On some environments WebGL does not run by default. To address this issue,
start ANSYS Additive from a command prompt using the following flag:
--ignore-gpu-blacklist
● A current default web browser must be installed to use the ANSYS License
Management Center and to view the ANSYS internet-based help documentation.
● You should have a minimum screen resolution of: 1024 x 768 (4:3 aspect ratio), 1366 x
768 (16:9 aspect ratio) or 1280 x 800 (16:10 aspect ratio) with minimum 24-bit color.
● You should have open port numbers for FlexNet and ANSYS Licensing Interconnect.
Defaults are 1055 and 2325, respectively. To verify that these port numbers are
available, open a command line and enter the following command:
netstat -a -p tcp
You will see a list of active ports. If 1055 and 2325 are listed, they are already in
use and cannot be used for ANSYS licensing. In this case, you need to specify
different port numbers where indicated later in this installation.
1
Additionally, you will need ports 5000, 7933, 8181, 9001, 9002 and 9042 open to allow
ANSYS Additive to communicate with other parts of the application.
● You should also have your local machine's hostname, to specify as the license server.
● Be aware that Windows 10 uses a feature called User Account Control (UAC) to control
privileges and automatically reduce the potential of security breaches in the operating
system. However, UAC limits your accessibility to system areas and can cause
unpredictable behavior in ANSYS products. Because of this limitation, we strongly
recommend performing the installation with full administrative options.
UAC should be turned off and installation performed with full administrative privileges
(using Run as Administrator from the context menu). Please follow your operating
system instructions for disabling UAC.
2. Make sure you are logged on as an administrator and have full administrative privileges.
3. Right click on setup.exe and choose Run as administrator to start the installation.
4. From the ANSYS, Inc. Installation Launcher, click Install ANSYS Products.
5. Read the license agreement, and if you agree, click I Agree to accept the terms and
click Next. You must select I Agree to continue with the installation.
Note: The question mark icon located in the upper right side of each installation screen
displays an explanation of the functionality available on that screen. The letter "I" icon
displays information about the release version of the installation software.
6. Enter the installation directory. We recommend that you install ANSYS Additive to the
default installation directory.
Click Next.
2
7. The component selection dialog appears. Verify that the Additive option is selected.
Click Next.
NOTE: You must install ANSYS License Manager LM1 or higher on at least one server
machine prior to running ANSYS Additive. The steps for installing ANSYS License
Manager can be found below.
1. If the Installation Launcher is not open, right-click the setup.exe file and select Run as
administrator.
4. You will be notified that the license manager, if running, will be shut down. Click OK.
5. The License Agreement screen appears. Read the license agreement, and if you agree,
click I Agree to accept the terms and click Next, located on the right side of the screen.
You must select I Agree to continue with the installation.
6. Specify the installation directory and click Next to continue. You can accept the default
installation directory or specify an alternate installation location. The installation directory
is set to <OS_Drive>\Program Files\ANSYS Inc by default. You must have
administrative privileges for the directory you specify. In addition, the directory:
3
○ must be a local, fixed-media drive
○ cannot be a UNC or relative path
○ cannot be a short file name format path
○ cannot be a symbolic link or junction
○ cannot use wide character names/paths
Note: You are not permitted to change the installation directory for a computer that
currently contains an instance of the ANSYS, Inc. License Manager.
7. The ANSYS, Inc. License Manager is the only component available and is selected to be
installed. The amount of disk space required and the disk space available appear at the
bottom of the window. Be sure that you have sufficient space before continuing.
9. A summary of the selected installation data appears. Review the information carefully,
and if correct, click Next to continue the installation.
10. The ANSYS License Manager is now being installed and configured on your system.
After the License Manager installation has been completed, the Launch License
Management Center upon exiting option is included on the screen. The ANSYS
License Management Center is a browser-based user interface that centralizes many
of the ANSYS product licensing administrative functions. If you do not want to launch the
License Management Center, clear the Launch License Management Center upon
exiting option.
12. When the license manager installation is complete, click Exit. A new Start Menu item
named ANSYS, Inc. License Manager will be created automatically. It will include
selections for the License Management Center, the ANSYS, Inc. Licensing Guide,
the FlexNet License Administration Guide and the ANSLIC_ADMIN utility.
4
2. Click the Get System Hostid Information option to display your system ID code(s).
3. Select the system ID you wish to use and click SAVE TO FILE.
5. Forward this text file to your ANSYS sales representative so that a license file can be
created for you.
6. Add your license files through the ANSYS License Management Center. For these
steps, see Adding a License below.
Adding a License
1. Save the license file that you received from your ANSYS sales representative to a
temporary file.
8. If the selected license file is not valid, the process ends with the Status pane displaying
an error message containing details.
9. If the license file is valid, the Add a License File dialog box is displayed:
● If the ANSYS License Manager is not running, you are informed that it will be
started when the license file is added. If this is the case, click Install License
File.
● If the ANSYS License Manager is running, you are given the option of either
restarting it or reread the license manager settings. Click the appropriate option.
5
For more information, see Rereading the License Manager Settings section of
the ANSYS Licensing Guide. You can access this guide through the ANSYS
License Management Center.
10. The Status pane displays a message informing you of the steps taken successfully
along with any errors that were encountered.
