CONSTRUCTION

The Holly pullover is worked from the top down with a saddle shoulder construction. To begin with, two cable
panels are worked for the tops of the shoulders and their stitches put on hold for the sleeves.

Next, stitches are picked up along the length of one cable panel for the left shoulder, then stitches are cast on
for the back and finally stitches are picked up along the length of the second cable for the right shoulder. Af-
ter this initial set-up stage, the back is now worked back and forth with short-row shaping at the shoulders
and back neckband, and increases at the underarms. At this point the back piece is put on hold in order to
work both front pieces.

The front pieces are worked in a similar fashion to the back by picking up stitches along the length of the cor-
responding cable panel. Each front piece is worked separately back and forth with short row shaping at the
shoulder and side of the neckline followed by increases worked at the front neckline. The two pieces are then
joined at the neckline and the front is worked back and forth in one piece until increases are worked at the
underarms.

Next the back and front pieces are joined at the underarms and the body of the sweater is worked in stock-
inette stitch in the round with cables enclosed by shifted ribbing running the lengths of its sides.

Finally, stitches are picked up along the armholes and the cable panel stitches are picked up again at the
shoulders in order to work the sleeves. The cables at the shoulders continue smoothly the length of the tops
of the sleeves, echoing the ones on the body of the garment.
