Presentation, Analysis, and Interpretation of Data
This section presents analysis of data collected and the results of the study. In this chapter,
the captured data from quantitative research is presented, analyzed, described and interpreted
in a systematic way as the follow up step of the research process. The documentation as well
as the analysis process aimed to present data in an interpretable and intelligible manner to
identify relationships and trends in accordance with the aim of the research.
Table 1
SEX FREQUENCY PERCENTAGE RANK
F 52 59.09% 1
M 36 40.91% 2
TOTAL 88 100%
This table shows that female respondents make up 59.09% while our male respondent counts
up to 40.91%. Therefore, majority of our respondent are Female.

HUMSS 33 37.5% 1
ABM 6 6.82% 4
ICT 24 27.27% 3
TOTAL 88 100%
Based on this table, our respondents from each strand, HUMMS has the highest frequency
leading with 37.5% out of a 100% total. While STEM coming in second with 28.41%, almost
tying with ICT consisting of 27.27%, with ABM having the least amount coming in with
6.82%.

91-97 27 30.69% 2
TOTAL 88 100%
This table indicates the GPA Frequency. Most of the students has 86-90 GPA, leading it to
have the highest frequency with the percentage of 39.77%. While 27 respondents answered
having GPA ranging from 91-97 with 30.69% of frequency.

TOTAL 88 100%
Based on this table, our respondents answered the question about their duration of
smartphone use. Majority of the respondents are most likely to spend more than 8 hours a day
using their smartphone, with it representing a percentage of 35.33%. And 2 students answered
0-2 hours, with 2.27% of frequency, making it the least frequency out of all the duration
specified.

Our total analyzation of it are: ABM has the highest GPA based on the percentage it got,
leading with 94.119% but their strand only has 6 female students, therefore, their percentage
is high. Coming in second would be HUMMS, a high percentage with 89.106% and has the
highest female gender count. STEM with their GPA percentage of 88.784%, ICT being last at
the category of GPA counting to 86.375%. The mean of both duration of smartphone usage
and GPA was calculated to come up with the accurate results in the next table.

MEAN SUM SUM
Table 6 specifies the mean and the sum of each variable which will be used to calculate the
correlation or coefficient in the next table. This table is basically the summary of the tally
results of our survey questionnaire.

Table 7:

0 0 20704 (SSx) 31.7318 (SSy) -612.372 (SPxy)
In the last table, both the x and y variables were added together and divided by 4, which is the
strand count. The result of both were calculated with the following formula: Σ(xi - x̄ )2 ,
Σ(yi - ȳ), followed by Σ(xi - x̄ )(yi - ȳ) . The result were then calculated with the same formula
divided by n-1. Then the coefficient formula was used to obtain the final result which is -
0.7555.
Results of the correlation indicates that there is a non-significant large negative relationship
between X and Y. Parallel that Grade 12 learners’ smartphone usage and GPA have a non-
significant large negative correlational value.
