LINH UNG PAGODA

1. Linh Ung Pagoda Introduction:


 There are 3 pagodas in Da Nang City with the same name as “Linh
Ung” But only Linh Ung Bai But Pagoda Da Nang (which means
Buddha’s Land in this world) has the tallest “Lady Buddha statue” in
Vietnam.
 The statue stands back against the mountain and faces the Ocean. One
hand of her teaching, one holding a jar of holy water, with gentle eyes
looking all over Danang city.
2. Linh Ung Pagoda Da Nang Location:
 Located around 10 km to the Northeast of Da Nang city, at a height of
695 m above sea level, the Son Tra peninsula is a wonderful
masterpiece that nature has offered to Danang city. No matter where
you stand in the city, you can still see this imposing mountain and the
tallest Lady Buddha statue.
 Linh Ung Bai But Pagoda stands right on the mountainside,
overlooking the Eastern Sea. To the left, you can admire Cham Island,
while looking to the right, you’ll enjoy the fabulous Hai Van mountain
along with the romantic Han River.
3. Legend & History of Linh Ung Pagoda:
 Under the reign of Minh Mang emperor, the local fishermen in the
Son Tra peninsula collected a small ancient and sacred Lady Buddha.
 Believing this statue was a good omen, so the local fishermen and
residents set up a small shrine to worship. Since then, the ocean waves
gradually become quieter and softer, and this helped the fishermen to
safely go out fishing and make a living.
 Passing a long time with many up and down of historical periods, the
support of fellow Buddhists, and the permission of the local
government, the Linh Ung Bai but Pagoda was officially built in June
2004, and after 6 years of construction, it has been completed as
today.
4. Linh Ung Pagoda Da Nang Attractions:
a. The massive pagoda with beautiful architecture:
 Linh Ung Bai But Pagoda was built on a large area of 20-hectare
on Son Tra Mountain with many functional monuments such as the
main hall of worshiping pagoda, the lecture hall, the ancestral
house, the road halls, the library, the cafeteria, the Arhat statue
garden.

c. Arhat statues Garden:
 Linh Ung Pagoda is also famous for the beautiful bonsai garden
with Arhat statues portrayed sophisticated, sharp but smooth.
 The 18 marble Arhat statues are one of the most distinctive
features of this famous pagoda which were carved up by artist
Nguyen Viet Minh (The head of Non Nuoc craft carving village)
with monolithic white marble materials from Thanh Hoa province.
d. Main shrine hall:
 is the most dignified and pure. In the middle, there is a Sakyamuni
Buddha statue, on the right side has an Avalokitesvara Bodhisattva
statue and the left side has a Buddha Tripitaka statue, four
Guardians and 18 Arhats are arranged by a rule to protect the main
shrine.
 Each statue is the embodiment of different emotions “joy, anger,
love, and hate” of people that makes the atmosphere here
extremely holy.
