Order of operations

Maths worksheets from urbrainy.com

Remember, in a number sentence (or

expression) when there are several operations,
we need to stick to some rules. Here they are:

1. First do the operations that are in brackets.

2. Then do any divisions.

This is often known as bodmas.
3. Thirdly do any multiplications (The o stands for ‘of’.)

Lastly, do any additions and subtractions

Work out the value of each of these number sentences. Remember to do the brackets
first.

1. (4 x 5) − (6 ÷ 2) 2. (7 x 8) – (30 ÷ 5)

3. (40 − 12) + (2 x 6) 4. (50 − 32) + (4 x 3)

Put the brackets in the correct places to make these number sentences true.

5. 5 x 5 + 6 = 55 6. 50 ÷ 5 + 5 = 5

7. 20 ÷ 4 x 3 = 15 8. 8 x 6 – 2 = 32
