Chemical Engineering Department
COURSE SYLLABUS

1. Course Code: CALENG2

2. Course Title: Integral Calculus

3. Pre-requisite: CALENG1 (H)

4. Credit Units: 3 units

5. Course Description:
This course (Integral Calculus – CALENG2) introduces the concept of integration and its application to
some physical problems such as evaluation of areas, volumes of revolution, force, and work. The
fundamental formulas and various techniques of integration are taken up and applied to both single
variable and multi-variable functions. The course also includes tracing of functions of two variables for a
better appreciation of the interpretation of the double and triple integral as volume of a three-dimensional
region bounded by two or more surfaces.

6. Student Outcomes (SO) and Learning Outcomes (LO):

Upon completion of the course, the student is expected to be able to do the following:
PROGRAM EDUCATIONAL STUDENT OUTCOMES LEARNING OUTCOMES
OBJECTIVES (PEO) (SO) (LO)
Life-Long Learning SO-A (Introductory) LO1: Explain the basic concepts of
(PEO-2) An ability to apply knowledge of integration and properly carry out
mathematics, physical sciences, integration through the use ofthe
engineering sciences to the fundamental integration formulas.

and multi-variable functions
LO3: Apply integration to the evaluation
of areas, volumes of revolution,
force, and work.

13. Class Policies
 Attendance to the online lectures is either synchronous (Conference live) or asynchronous (watch
recorded or video tutorials).
 During online lectures, attendance shall not affect the evaluation of the students; however, attendance
to both synchronous and asynchronous sessions is strongly encouraged.
 Policies on Examination (Student Handbook 2015-2018, Section 10, p. 90) in addition to existing
department policies apply.
 University policies on academic dishonesty will strictly be enforced. Policies on cheating and
corrective measures and formative interventions (Sections 5.3.1.1, p. 46 and 4.4.1, p. 56, Student
Handbook 2015-2018) also applies.
 Homework and Seatwork. Students may be excused from submitting homework or doing seatwork
only once during the entire term due to an approved/valid absence; homework or seatwork
subsequently missed will be given a grade of zero. Homework or seatwork missed due to
approved/valid absence will be excluded from the determination of the final grade. Submission of
homework and seatwork shall be online. Late submission will merit deductions.
 Online Activity / Assessments. Activity sheets/assessments will be given to students in advance and
must be submitted online. Be sure to start answering the activity sheets/assessments upon receipt
and do not wait for few hours before the deadline so as not to encounter problems with
internet/network connections or computer access. In case of adverse weather conditions that could
affect internet connections, the dates for online submission will be adjusted accordingly. Late activity
sheets will not be accepted under any circumstances.
 Quizzes. Make-up quiz will only be given once during the entire term due to approved or valid
absence. Otherwise, students who miss any exam or quiz due to unapproved absenceswill be given a
score of zero. Quizzes subsequently missed will be given a score of zero. Make-up quizzes will be
given with prior approval of the professor and under exceptional circumstances only.
 Final Examination. Students are not allowed to take the final examination in advance. Students must
not make any travel plans, except for those related to official university activities, which will interfere
with the administration of the final exam or the grade consultation day.
 Proper decorum is expected from the students even during online classes. Place mic on silent when
not reciting/participating. Ensure mobile phones or gadgets are put in a silent mode unless required for
teaching and learning purposes.
