Reading Assessment Analysis

Results
The Reading Assessment results reveal that out of 305 takers in English, 80 (26.23%) are
frustration readers, 109 (35.74%) are instructional readers, 110 (36.07%) are independent readers
and 6 (1.97%) are non-readers.

Likewise, out from 311 takers in Filipino, 39 (12.54%) belongs to frustration level, 157
(50.48%) are instructional readers, 113 (36.33%) belongs to independent readers and 2 (0.64%) are
non-readers.

A significant number of students both in Filipino (12.54%) and English (26.23%) fall under
frustration reading level and 2.61 % belongs to non-readers. This indicates that a notable portion of
students faces challenges in comprehension.

Analysis
The reading assessment data of SY 2022-2023 indicates that there is a notable number of
frustration readers in both English and Filipino, suggesting challenges in comprehension. The
identified non-readers also added to the pressing challenges in literacy of the school.

Factors contributing to this include vocabulary gaps. Vocabulary is the foundation of

comprehension. Without a sufficient understanding of words, students may struggle to grasp the
meaning of sentences and passages.

Also, the absence of reading habits is another factor. Regular reading habits promotes
familiarity with different writing styles, genres, and structures. Students who lack consistent reading
habits may hinder their comprehension skills.

Moreover, unfamiliarity with the English language, is observed. Unfamiliarity with the
language can impede comprehension exposure to English through reading conversation, and
targeted language barriers and enhancing comprehension.

Likewise, the lack of enthusiasm for reading is another considered factor. A genuine interest
and passion for reading motivate students to invest time and effort in understanding texts. When
there is lack of enthusiasm in reading, students may approach reading as a chore and consequently
impact their comprehension.

Recommendation

Identify and Address Learning Gaps. Conduct targeted assessments to identify specific learning gaps
and least mastered skills and develop tailored interventions to address identified gaps.

Schedule Regular Reading Time. Strengthen the existing reading program, providing students with
dedicated time to explore a variety of books and encourage reading across subject areas to enhance
comprehension skills.

Utilize Questioning Techniques. Train teachers to employ effective questioning techniques to build
comprehension skills and foster a classroom environment that encourages discussions and critical
thinking.

Implement Special Reading Program. Give special reading session to identified non-readers,
providing these learners the basic literacy skills for them to cope up with the learning tasks.
