Narrative Report on a Weekly list Basis

Week 1: June 3-7, 2024

For our internship, I am deployed at Our Farmers' Haven Federation Incorporated Philippines
(OFH). Our internship started with an orientation session covering the history, vision, mission,
goals, and objectives of Our Farmers Haven Federation Inc Philippines. All the staff members,
along with OJT interns, introduced themselves. The day involved sorting receipts and attaching
them to corresponding documents, as well as organizing files of the farmers based on their
respective chapters. The next day, we are engaged in sorting, weighing, packaging, and labeling
the organic products, ensuring they were prepared for distribution and sale. During our third day
in OFH we are given the opportunity to go with our supervisors on a farm visit to Daclan,
Tublay, Benguet. We had the opportunity to observe and monitor operations at three different
farms wherein we had a hands-on experience that provided us insights into agricultural practices
and production processes. The fourth day activities included sorting and cleaning of packaging
materials used for the products. There was also a thorough sorting and arrangement of various
documents to maintain organizational efficiency. Additionally, participants contributed to
maintaining cleanliness by cleaning glass doors and windows in the processing room and school
canteen. Last day of the working days of this week, we sort and pack the fresh organic fruits and
vegetables, ensuring they were ready for distribution. Furthermore, we participated in washing
and wiping down crates to maintain hygiene standards.

Week 2: June 10- 14, 2024

The second week of our internship was started with a reflection with Rev. Fr. Flores G. Manuel
wherein he asked us about our learning for the past week. After that, we encoded personal datas
of the farmers in Google Form provided by the staffs. Following OFH routine every Tuesday,
We did our usual which is the sorting, labeling, cleaning, weighing, packaging and labeling the
organic fruits and vegetables, which will be delivered the same day in Manila and their stores
here in La Trinidad and Baguio City. The next day is a holiday so we are not required to go to
the office. By Thursday, we just clean the packaging area and plan the activity that is given to us
by our supervisors which is the brochure. Then it is already Friday but it is holiday again so we
didn’t came to work.
Week 3: June 17-21, 2024

Unfortunately, Monday and Tuesday are holidays so we didn’t went to work but for Tuesday we
are required to go to OFH as it is the packaging day of all the organic fruits and vegetables. We
did the usual sorting, cleaning, weighing, packaging and labeling of organic fruits and vegetables
that was delivered the same day. Wednesday started with us cutting the manila paper into four
equal parts we also clean the office we are staying and did inventories of the packaging materials
and organize it. After lunch, the delivery van come back from Manila with the rejected
vegetables because some of it contains pest (slug, worm) and there is also a little bit of spoilage.
We removed the pests and the spoilage part and repackaged it again. Thursday came and we
packed the carrots to be delivered in VIDA ORGANICA and clean the office. After that we did a
reflection again with the OFH director wherein he asked us about our learning, observations and
suggestions that can improve the OFH. When it is almost 3:00 pm we, together with the staff
went for a snack in Mommy La because it is one of the staffs' birthday. The next day, we are told
to clean and repacked the mint and basil leaves. After that we are invited to listen on a research
forum titled" Impact Assessment of Relevant Philippine National Standard on Organic
Agriculture". They told us to take down notes for our reflection paper. We cleaned the packaging
room in the afternoon including the offices of the staffs.

Its Monday again so it means we need to go to OFH again. Last week, they mentioned that
everyone including the staff will go to the demo farm in Alapang but when we were about to go
one of the staff mentioned that 2 interns need to stay in the office together with the marketing
and finance staffs. Me and one of my companion decided to stay. We sort, check, encode
documents and the receipts of the farmers until afternoon. The next day is the packaging day so
as usual we started at 7:00 am. We weighed, clean, sort, pack and label the organic fruits and
vegetables. Then by Wednesday, we went to Alapang Demo Farm to help the farmer in getting
sunflower for their compost so the whole worming we cut and carry the sunflower to the the rain
shredding machine/area. The next day, we received our task through the group chat. It was
mentioned that we need to wash the crates and clean the restrooms. By the time we reach the
office, the office area and a little bit part of the packaging area is flooded due to the faucet which
was not turned off yesterday. Some of our companions clean the flooded area and we went to the
grocery to buy detergents & zonrox for the restroom and joy dish washing liquid for the crates-
when we went back to the office, we started doing the task and by afternoon we did our
promotional video and our journal. Then it is Friday, we packed, labeled, weighed, sorted the

wait for taxi. After that, 2 of supervisors and one intern went to BSU to deliver the packed
vegetables.

II. Learnings

Throughout the almost two months of working , I gained practical experiences in various aspects
of operations within Our Farmers Haven Federation Inc Philippines, including both
administrative tasks and hands-on agricultural activities. The activities we have done not only
contributed to the organization's operational efficiency but also provided valuable learning
opportunities for us interns. I learned about the organization’s history, vision, mission and its
various markets, which include Healthy Options, Vida Organica, Alabang, Cubao, GFC, and
Oassis. OFH sources products from farmers across several locations such as Bakun, Buguias,
Kapangan, Kabayan, Kibungan, Tublay, Atok, La Trinidad, Mankayan, and Sablan. This
includes all my learnings on the different varieties of fruits and vegetables including tomatoes,
lettuce and others and the english terms/words for the herbs and vegetables. The technicalities in
packaging wherein OFH has to meet specific standards depends on who their market is. I learned
that in packing we really needed to have long patience and that we need to pay attention to
everything especially the small details. Patience because we need to be extra careful in cleaning
and handling the fruits and vegetables especially the delicate one. Giving attention to small
details can also help you not to repeat the packed vegetables because OFH market especially
Healthy Options doesn’t accept the product if they see even a small amount of dirt. Our visit in
Daclan, Tublay, Benguet and the demo farm in Alapang gave me a lot of new knowledge
especially in Organic Farming. I learned that Hydrophonics produce is not an organic product. I
also learned that compost is essential to organic farmers as they do not use any synthetic
pesticides and fertilizers. I learned that composting is takes 14 to 22 days for compost to
decompose fully, using materials like banana trunks, sunflowers, and grass due to their rich
nutrient content. Additionally, I discovered that soil must be tested for conversion before starting
an organic farm. Lastly, our reflection with Fr. Manny also taught me a lot especially in
administrative principles wherein he emphasizes the importance of change in an organization. I
learned that change is essential in any business for it to grow and prosper. I also learn about the
importance of communication and dialogue with the farmers and the market.

III. Conclusion

My almost two months stay in Our Farmers Haven Federation Incorporated Phillipines is
an informative and improving experience that provided me with high-end information and
insights into the operations of this organization. Through a range of responsibilities and
activities, I obtained a thorough insight and knowledge of the organization’s history, vision,
mission and their critical role in assisting local organic farmers. Throughout my internship, I
learned about the tough process required to manage a farm and market system. I observed the
right process in sorting, weighing and packaging organic produce to meet the market standard.
Furthermore, Our reflection with Fr. Flores G. Manuel gave me a broader view on administrative
methods and the value of successful management. I discovered that good administration entails
more than just managing others; it necessitates teamwork, communication and a desire to be
hands-on. This approach of leadership promotes a more productive and harmonious workplace.

My experience at OFH has been crucial in influencing my professional development. The

hands-on experiences in managing agricultural produce, educational opportunities and insights
into successful administration have all contributed to my better understanding of the agriculture
sector and organizational dynamics. This internship has not only developed my technical skills
but will also prepare me to my future challenges that I can encounter in my future career.
