Q.1 (a) You are an analyst for a manufacturing company that sells seasonal products such as
umbrellas. The company wants to improve its inventory management by accurately
forecasting the demand for umbrellas for the upcoming summer. How would you approach
this forecasting task? Justify your recommendation. [4]
Q.1 (b) Favors Distribution Company purchases small imported trinkets in bulk, packages them, and
sells them to retail stores. The managers are conducting an inventory control study of all their
items. The following data are for one such item, which is not seasonal. Help the company
choose the method that provides a better forecast of exponential smoothening (alpha =.6) and
the 4-period moving average. Justify your answer with suitable calculations.

complete. The cost of performing the individual job in each machine centre is mentioned in the

Q.3 (a) A newly established manufacturing company hires you to help them choose a layout for their
product and optimize the resource usage for production. The company owner is unfamiliar
with layout types and their objectives. Help the owner to choose one layout explaining the
merits and demerits of each of them. [3]
Q.3 (b) Evaluate the number of units you need to order in each lot for given data. Demand =8000
units/yr. Fixed order cost of Rs. 500/per order. Holding cost=10% of ad The price the
supplier charges follows the all-unit discount pricing. Also find the time between two orders

Q.5 Righty, Inc. produces high-quality but expensive training shoes for runners. The Tailwind shoe,
which sells for $210, contains gas- and liquid-filled compartments to provide more stability and
better protection against knee, foot, and back injuries. Manufacturing the shoes requires ten
separate tasks. There are 400 minutes available to manufacture the shoes in the plant daily. Daily
