SUMMARY
The Grain as big as a hen’s egg written by Leo Tolstoy , the story started with the Some children saw
something shaped like a corn kernel with a groove down. But it was as big as a hen’s egg, and passing
traveler he saw the thing and bought it from the boy and brought it to town and sold it to the king.
The king gathered the wise men together and said to find out what the thing was, they could not make
head or tail of it, to a window the hen flew and pierced until it pierced and every one saw that it was a
grain of corn. The wise men went to the king and they said it was a grain of corn. The king was very
surprised, the king ordered the wise men to find out where the corn grew. They looked for a book, but
found nothing about it. So they went back to the king again and said “we can’t give you an answer. We
didn’t find anything in the book about it.
The king said to ask the farmers. Some of them may have heard from their fathers when the grain grew
to such a size. So the king ordered some old farmers to be brought with the servants. They found those
people and brought them to the king. Old and toothless managed with the help of two crutches to fall of
the king.the king showed him the grain, but the old man could not see it, he took it, and felt it with his
hands.
The king said; can you tell us, old man, where the grain grows? Have you bought corn in your field? The
old man can hardly hear and the king says, he understands poverty. No! he answered,’I didn’t harvest
anything in my field, and I couldn’t buy anything.and all planted, their own corn and if any we have to
share to everyone. I don’t know where it grows in this corn. Ours is bigger and it has a and produce
more flour than the current grain but I didn’t see anything like this.
I hear my dad told me in her days the grain has produce many flour than us.good of you to ask. And the
old man said; the corn like this grew everywhere in my time, I live in corn like in my youth, and fed
others with it. The king said answer me with two questions, first is, why the land is yielded such grain
before and it stopped working now?and the second is why is your grandson walking with two crutches?
Your son who has one, and you yourself have none? Your eye is bright, and your speech is clear and
pleasant to the hearing. How this all things works? And the old man says; all things are these things are
so because men have stop to live by their own labor and taken depending on the labor of others.
People lived according to god’s law.
ANALYSIS
“A grain as big as a hen’s egg” by Leo Tolstoy there’s a king who ruled the land, and the smart men who
are finding what the grain could be and where it came from. And the old man was rather hard of
hearing, he still heard better than his son had done.
The king ordered the wise men and they wanted to know what that thing was really about they never
stopped searching so the king wanted to know where it grew and who grew it .the king sent the old man
and asked how it grew and said that he did not plant but only buys small ones.In the old time, men lived
according to God’s law. They had was their own, and coveted not what others had produced.
CONCLUSION
In my opinion, this short story what I’ve read by Leo Tolstoy this was a good story and you can also
learn a lesson from this story, one who desires more, loses all. One should remain satisfied with what
one gets.
In their places whether it be making the king let look like the fool he was or pointing out to this king
he needed to reflect on the things he places his importance on. Time is more well spent working for the
good of the people as a whole than wondering about a random large sized piece of grain (and how to
capitalize on getting more on it) or just simply spending the money to excecute a murderer instead of
paying him to go away.
