Practice Problems
1. A high-speed subsonic aircraft is flying with a velocity of 170 m/s, at an altitude where
the pressure and temperature are 101300 Pa and 290 K, respectively. Calculate the
pressure at the stagnation point. Assume R = 287.08 J/kg.K and k = 1.4.
Given: V1 = 170 m/s Required: P2 = ?
P1 = 101300 Pa
T1 = 290 K
R = 287.08 J/kg.K
k = 1.4

2. An aircraft is flying at an altitude with an ambient pressure of 101325 Pa. A pitot tube
mounted on the wing tip measures a pressure of 202650 Pa. Calculate the Mach number
at which the aircraft is flying. Assume k = 1.39.

P2 = 202650 Pa
