SIMPLE PAST

VERB TO BE

SUBJECT + WAS (I, He, She, It)/ WERE (You and plural subject)
e.g. I was ill last week
He was at the hospital
They were at the office
You were in my class when we were young

WAS / WERE + SUBJECT+ '


e.g. Were you there last night?
Was your sister with you?

SUBJECT + WAS / WERE + NOT (wasn´t / weren´t)


e.g. I wasn´t there yesterday
They weren´t intelligent

*Note: no auxiliary is needed to form interrogative and negative structures.

REGULAR AND IRREGULAR VERBS

SUBJECT + VERB (irregular verbs have their own form; regular verbs add -ed to form the past
simple. The verb form is the same for singular and plural person)
e.g. I went to Paris last year
You ate a cake yesterday irregular verbs
They lost the keys las Monday

The girl needed a new skirt


John cleaned the car yesterday regular verbs
The doctor lived next to me

*Note: If the verb ends with -e, we add only -d ( not -ed) e.g. Live......lived.

DID + SUBJECT + VERB (infinitive) e.g. Did you clean the house?
Did she buy a new house?
Did they go to the cinema?

SUBJECT + DID + NOT (DIDN´T) + VERB (infinitive) e.g I did not (didn´t) clean the house
e.g They didn´t go to the cinema
