Dear Parents:

Motivate the child to listen to sounds of birds and imitate them. Help him/her to
read the poem and encourage to understand the importance of waking up early.
Let the child recite the poem before the family members. Child could use home
language to express his ideas in the poem. Encourage the child to express
his/her ideas through writing, art and craft as well. Motivate the child to work
independently as far as possible. Provide positive feedback and motivation.

Learning Outcome: After completing this chapter, the child will be able to:

 recite the poem with appropriate expressions,


 draw pictures related to poem,
 explain the meaning of new words,
 write 2-3 sentences about the poem,
 express his/her feelings freely,
 observes and appreciates nature,
 read a given passage and answer to the questions based on the
passage.

Summary of the Poem:


In the poem “Noses” A child looks into the mirror and she feels that her nose grows in
a funny and strange way. It sticks right out of her face. It has to small holes through
which air goes in and out. She sees that her nose grows out like a handle between the
end of her hair. She says that if ever one wants to laugh and shout, then all one needs
to look in the mirror.

Meaning of New Words:
Funny – humorous/ entertaining
Giggle- laugh
Doubt- distrust/ disbelief

Read the passage given below and do as directed.

This lesson is about a little Fir tree. Fir trees have leaves like needles, and so birds do
not make nests on them. One day the little Fir tree is granted four wishes by a
magician. For its first wish, the tree asks for green leaves like the other trees. The
leaves change but the tree is not happy because goats come to eat its leaves. So it
uses its second wish to turn its leaves into gold. The wish comes true, but then a man
steals the golden leaves. The Fir tree uses its third wish to turn its leaves into glass.
The wind blows and the glass leaves break. Realizing that it was happier with its own
leaves, the little Fir tree uses its last wish, to get needle shaped leaves back again.

Activity 1: Students, you will find this story in your textbook. Can you read it aloud to
your parents? Tell them what happens in the story.

Activity 2: Now think about this - If you meet a magician who grants you four wishes,
what will you wish for? Write down your wishes:

Summary of the Lesson:

This lesson is about a Little Fir Tree which had leaves like needle. Birds never made
nest on it. One day it was granted four wishes by a magician named Shetty. The tree
desired to have green leaves but goats eat the leaves, its leaves turned golden as per
its second wish, but a man came and stole the gold leaves, the tree turned into a glass
tree, but all the glass leaves broke when wind blew. The tree faced hardship by having
laves of other trees. The tree realizes that it was better earlier, with its own leaves.
