2. The temperature inside the vessel is 70C. Express the temperature in K,F, and R.
3. In a double effect evaporator plant the second effect is maintained under a vacuum of 450 torr.

7. How many kg of ethane are there in 50 kmol?
8. Convert 100 g of NiSO4.6H2O into its amount in moles.
9. NaCl weighing 400kg is mixed with 200kg KCl. Find the composition of the mixture in weight%
and mol%. Also, calculate the mole ratio of NaCl to KCl.
10. A solution of ethanol in water contains 25 mol% ethanol. Calculate the solution composition in
weight%.
11. A mixture of methane and ethane contains 25% of ethane by weight. Calculate the composition
of the gas mixture in mole%.
12. Calculate the volume occupied by 10 kg of chlorine gas at a pressure of 100 kPa and a
temperature of 298K. Also, calculate the volume occupied at standard conditions.
13. 10 kg of CO2 is compressed at a temperature of 30C to a volume of 0.5 m3. Calculate the
pressure required for the given duty.
14. 5 kg of O2 contained in a closed container of volume 1 m3 is heated without exceeding the
pressure of 710 kPa. Calculate the maximum temperature of the gas attained.
15. Calculate the mass of sulfur dioxide in a vessel having 2 m3 volume at a pressure of 100 kPa and
a temperature of 125C.
16. Gaseous propane, C3H8 is to be liquified for storage in steel cylinders. Calculate the mass of
liquid propane which will be formed by the liquefaction of 250 lit of the gas. The volume is
measured at standard conditions.
17. Calculate the average molecular weight of air and its density at STP condition.
18. A gas mixture contains 0.274 kmol of HCl, 0.337 kmol of N2, and 0.089 kmol of O2. Calculate
the average molecular weight of the gas mixture. Also, calculate the volume occupied by this
mixture at 405 kPa and 303K.
19. A natural gas has the following composition by volume: CH4 - 82%, C2H6 – 12%, and N2 – 6%.
Calculate its composition in weight % and density at 15C and 1 atm.
20. A gas mixture has the following composition: N2 – 70.5%, O2 – 18.8%, NH3 – 9.5%, H2O –
1.2%. Find the vol%, partial pressure %, weight% of each component. Calculate the average
molecular weight of the gas mixture. Also, calculate the density of the gas mixture at 600C and
7 bar.

21. A gaseous mixture has the following composition by volume: CO2 – 8%, CO – 14%, O2 – 6%,
N2 – 66%, CH4 – 1%, and H2O – 5%. Find: (i)The average molecular weight of the gas mixture
(ii) Weight % and (iii) density of the gas mixture at 30C and 1 atm.
22. The analysis by weight of magnesite ore yields 81% MgCO3, 14% SiO2 and 5% H2O. Calculate
the i) composition by mole %. ii) Average molecular weight.
23. Caustic soda flakes obtained from a manufacturer are found to contain 60ppm silica (SiO2).
Calculate the wt% of silica.
24. A sample of water contains 2000 ppm of solids. Express the concentration of solids as weight %.
25. 200 g of NaCl is present in 1 lit solution at 25°C. The density of the solution is 1.15g/cc.
Calculate the composition in (i)wt % (ii)mol% (iii)molality (iv)molarity (v)normality
26. An aqueous solution of NaCl contains 25g of NaCl per 100 ml of solution at 25°C. The density
of the solution is 1.18 g/cc. Calculate the composition of the solution in (i) Wt % (ii) mol% (iii)
molarity (iv)molality and (v)normality
27. An aqueous solution of acetic acid of 35% (by weight) has a density of 1.05 gm/cm3 at 25 C.
Find the normality and molality of the solution.
28. The density of an aqueous 25% by weight NaCl solution at 4C is 1.55 g/cm3 i) Calculate the
mole fraction of sodium chloride and normality of the solution.
