How to begin a Descriptive Essay:

Here are a few examples of opening statements that you can use to begin
your descriptive essay:

1.The city landscape transformed as twilight descended ,painting the


skyscrapers with a kaleidoscope of colours turning the urban jungle into a
luminous wonderland.

2. A gentle mist draped the hush forest like a mystical veil, adding an
ethereal touch to the ancient trees and moss – covered stones.

3.The ocean stretched out before me ,an endless expanse of azure blue
merging with the horizon , inviting me to dive into its mysteries .

4 The bustling market came alive with vibrant displays of exotic fruits, spices
and handmade crafts ,enticing visitors with a sensory feast .

5. The sun emerged from behind the mountain tops, casting a golden glow
over the tranquil valley below.

6.The sun was setting over the horizon casting a warm glow over the rolling
hills and dotted houses at the distance. I stood on the edge of the cliff,
taking in the breathtaking view before me.

7. As I walked through the narrow cobblestone streets , the sweet aroma of


the freshly baked bread filled the air. The quaint shops and colourful
buildings were a feast for the eyes .

8. The old pine tree stood tall and proud , its branches reaching towards the
sky . It looked as if it had weathered many storms and stood as a testament
to the passage of time.

9 The sound of crashing waves fill my ears as I stepped onto the deserted
beach. The sand was cool beneath my feet, and the salty sea air filled my
lungs.

10. The concert hall was filled my ears with the murmurs of people's
admiration and awe , as the orchestra tuned their instruments . The
anticipation was palpable, and I knew it was going to be a night to
remember.

What can I write instead of these commonly used sentences:

1. The room was cold.

Write- The icy chill in the air made my teeth chatter.


2. The tree was tall.
Write- The towering oak stretched towards the sky , its branches
reaching out like gnarled fingers.

3. The room was messy.

4. The beach was beautiful.


Write- The sun- kissed beach glimmered
with powdery white sand, azure waves lapping gently against the
shore, and seagulls soaring gracefully in the cerulean sky.

5. The car was fast.


Write- The sleek sports car zoomed down the highway, its engine
roaring with power as it effortlessly surpassed every vehicle in the
path.

6. The food tasted good.


Write- The rich aroma of freshly ground coffee filled the air, and with
each sip , the velvety dark roast tantalized the taste buds with
notes of chocolate and caramel.

7. The house was old.


Write- The weathered Victorian house stood as a testament to a
bygone era, its crumbling wooden details revealing the passage of
time.
