1. Introduction
1.1 Purpose
This document follows a systematic approach to develop the functional together with non-
functional requirements for the Smart Health Monitoring System (SHMS). The SHMS takes
advantage of AI-based health monitoring which integrates IoT wearables to constantly
monitor vital signs before notifying both healthcare staff and caregivers about any
abnormalities.

1.2 Document Conventions

This document adheres to IEEE SRS standard requirements through combination of
standardized terminology with section structure and comprehensive descriptions.

1.3 Intended Audience and Reading Suggestions

 The developers need this document to understand all required functions alongside
additional requirements for both functional and non-functional domains.
 The Business Analysts need the document to double-check that everything supports
established business targets.
 Project Managers need this document to assess progress and development activities.
 The client Andrea Murray needs to confirm the final product abilities together with
its deliverables.
 End Users (Patients & Healthcare Providers): To understand system functionalities.

1.4 Project Scope

 Users track their health status through wearable IoT devices with AI analytics that
run continuously in the SHMS. Real-time monitoring of health information together
with anomaly alert systems exists within the system which enables efficient
integration with Electronic Health Records (EHRs).
 The product aims to deliver better healthcare capabilities while cutting down the
need for hospital attendance.

2. Overall Description
2.1 Product Perspective
SHMS operates as an independent cloud system that integrates with wearable technology as
well as healthcare institutions and digital health solutions such as Google Fit and Apple
HealthKit.

2.2 Product Functions

 Real-time health data monitoring from IoT wearables.
 AI-powered analytics for health risk prediction.
 The application provides customizable dashboards both for users and healthcare
providers.
 Integration with EHRs for seamless data exchange.
 The system includes appointment scheduling capabilities as well as automatic
appointment reminder functions.

2.3 User Characteristics

 Users who seek health tracking include patients with chronic health problems,
elderly patients and active people who check their medical status.
 Medical practitioners together with nurses and caregivers monitor patient vital signs
as part of their healthcare professional roles.
 System Administrators known as Admin Users maintain control over system access
together with security measures and integration functions.

2.4 Constraints
 Compliance with GDPR and HIPAA for data protection.
 The system will integrate with external third-party systems including EHRs and Apple
HealthKit and Google Fit.
 System uptime of 99.9% for real-time monitoring.

2.5 Assumptions and Dependencies

 All users must possess wearable devices that operate together.
 Cloud infrastructure (AWS/Firebase) is available.
 The system requires active internet connections to deliver instant updates.

3. Functional Requirements
3.1 User Registration & Authentication
 Users should register by creating an account with email or phone number together
with their social login details.
 Multi-factor authentication (MFA) for security.

3.2 Data Collection & Processing

 The device collects measurements of heart rate and blood pressure and oxygen
levels and physical exercise data.
 The AI models process patterns to detect unusual behaviour.

3.3 Alert System

 Live health warnings are directly sent to users and their designated caregivers
through the system.
 Configurable alert preferences (SMS, email, push notifications).
3.4 Dashboard & Reports
 The system shows current data through graphical representations and chart displays.
 Generates weekly/monthly health reports.

3.5 Appointment Scheduling

 Through this system users can make reserved sessions with health care personnel.
 Automated reminders and calendar sync.

3.6 System Integration

 APIs for wearable devices, hospital EHRs, and third-party health apps.

3.7 Security & Compliance

 End-to-end encryption for data security.
 Role-based access control.
 GDPR and HIPAA compliance.

4. Non-Functional Requirements
4.1 Performance Requirements
 The system needs to display time-sensitive data within a 2 second response period.
 Scalability: Supports up to 100,000 concurrent users.

4.2 Usability Requirements

 Simple UI for users with limited computer literacy.
 Mobile-responsive design.

4.3 Reliability & Availability

 99.9% uptime guarantee.
 Automatic failover in case of system failure.

4.4 Maintainability & Support

 The software system distributes automatic updates that release new features along
with security mitigation patches.
 Customer support available 24/7.

4.5 Security Requirements

 Both data encryption ensures security during transmission and when kept inactive.
 The system maintains audit logs that enable the monitoring of user system access
5. Gantt Chart
Project Schedule - The project phases alongside their essential milestones can be found in
the attached Gantt chart.

6. Appendices
6.1 Acronyms
