Write a composition beginning with the words: The memories of that day…

The memories of that day remain in my mind, etched as vividly as the patterns on a Maasai
shuka. Nairobi was bustling as always, the relentless hum of matatus weaving through the
crowded streets, honking and blaring their eclectic mix of music. The sky, painted in hues of
crimson and gold by the setting sun, cast long shadows across the city. I was headed to KICC,
where the annual Tech Expo was in full swing.

Kimani had insisted I attend. “Lucy, you have to see this new AI software,” he had said with his
characteristic enthusiasm. “It’s going to change everything.”

I arrived at the venue, the grand architecture of the Kenyatta International Conference Centre
towering above me. Inside, the expo was a labyrinth of innovation—drones buzzing overhead,
3D printers whirring, and VR headsets transporting users to alternate realities. Kimani was at a
booth near the center, his eyes alight with excitement.

“Lucy, over here!” he called, waving me over. He was demonstrating a sleek device that looked
like a smartwatch but, as he explained, had the capability to analyze and predict health
conditions with unprecedented accuracy.

“Isn’t it amazing?” Kimani asked, his eyes gleaming.

I nodded, impressed by the technology. “It’s incredible. But isn’t it a bit... intrusive?”

“Maybe,” he conceded. “But think of the lives it could save.”

As we talked, a commotion erupted at the far end of the hall. People were shouting, and the
crowd began to surge towards the exits. I grabbed Kimani’s arm, and we moved towards the
disturbance.

Suddenly, the lights flickered and went out, plunging the hall into darkness. My heart pounded as
a voice crackled over the PA system.

“Ladies and gentlemen, please remain calm. We are experiencing a temporary power outage.”

In the darkness, I felt Kimani’s grip tighten on my hand. “We need to get out of here,” he
whispered urgently.

We navigated through the chaotic crowd, guided only by the faint glow of emergency lights. As
we reached the exit, a figure blocked our path. Ombati, a tech rival known for his ruthless tactics,
stood there with a sinister smile.

“Leaving so soon?” he asked, his voice dripping with mock concern.

“What do you want, Ombati?” Kimani demanded.

“Oh, just a little information,” Ombati replied, stepping closer. “About your new project. I hear
it’s quite revolutionary.”

Kimani’s jaw clenched. “You won’t get anything from us.”

Ombati’s smile widened. “We’ll see about that.”

At that moment, the power returned, flooding the hall with light. Ombati’s menacing expression
vanished as he melted into the crowd. We hurried out of the building, my mind racing with
questions.

Outside, the cool evening air was a relief. Kimani led me to a secluded spot, his face tense with
worry.

“Lucy, there’s something I need to tell you,” he began, his voice low. “That device... it’s not just
a health monitor. It can hack into any system it comes into contact with.”

I stared at him in shock. “Why didn’t you tell me?”

“I couldn’t risk it,” he said. “But now, Ombati knows. We have to protect it.”

Before I could respond, my phone buzzed. A message from an unknown number: “We’re
watching. Make the right choice.”

My blood ran cold. “Kimani, what do we do?”

He looked at me, determination etched on his face. “We fight. We protect the technology and
ensure it’s used for good.”

As we stood there, the city lights twinkling around us, I knew this was just the beginning. The
path ahead was fraught with danger, but we had no choice but to forge ahead. For the future of
technology, and for the safety of countless lives, we had to prevail.
