Induction Type Directional Power Relay: The Directional Relay Means The Relay Operates For The
The directional power relay operates when power flows in a specific direction in a circuit. It produces torque due to the interaction of fluxes from both voltage and current, with the voltage coil flux lagging voltage by 90 degrees and the current coil flux being in phase with current. A directional overcurrent relay consists of a directional element and non-directional element in a common case, and only operates if power flows abnormally by energizing the lower non-directional element.

Directional Power Relay
The directional relay means the relay operates for the specific direction of the actuating quantity in the circuit. The directional power relay operates when the power in the circuit floes in the specific direction.
The torque is produced due to
interaction of the fluxes produced from both voltage and current in the circuit. The voltage coil provided on the upper magnet produces the flux 1. This lags the voltage by 90. The current I is sensed by the current coil on lower magnet which produces the flux 2. This is inphase with current I. The current I lags voltage V by an angle .
Directional over current
relay It consists of two relay elements mounted on a common case viz. (i) Directional element and (ii) Non-directional element Operation:- Under normal operating conditions, power flows in the normal direction in the circuit operated by the relay. Therefore, directional power relay does not operate, thereby keeping the (lower element) un-energized.
