- is a very important aspect of


academic writing because it
immediately affect the tone of
your writing.
• Although some instructions may say that
you will lose points because of grammatical
errors in your paper, you may lose points if
the tone of your writing is too casual or
sloppy (a dairy-type of writing of choppy
sentences will make the tone of your
writing too casual for academic writing).
COHESIVE WRITING

Refers to the connection of your


ideas both at the sentence level and
the paragraph level.
COHERENCE
-is another aspect of academic writing. Literally, the
word means “to stick together”.

Coherence in writing means that all ideas in a


paragraph flow smoothly from one another to the next
sentence. With coherence, the reader has an easy
time understanding the ideas that you wish to
express.
