Magno-Post Edsa Period

The post-EDSA period of 1986 saw a transition in Philippine media from state-controlled newspapers under Marcos to free and responsible journalism. Pro-Marcos establishment newspapers were closed or sequestered by the Aquino government, while alternative press became mainstream. Major broadcast stations owned by Marcos cronies were also sequestered. New organizations were formed to professionalize the press through ethics and education. The media landscape also saw deregulation and emerging information technologies.
