Mathematics 2 Week 5

This document provides lesson plans for teaching multiplication as repeated addition using various representations over 4 days. On day 1, it illustrates multiplication as repeated addition and counting by multiples using examples of pechay plants in a garden. Day 2 uses examples of a bouncing ball and number lines. Day 3 discusses arrays and equal jumps on number lines. Day 4 focuses on writing related addition and multiplication equations for different representations of multiplication like repeated addition, arrays, equal jumps, and counting by multiples.

DAY 1
A. Preparation
B. Motivation
Show a picture of a garden

Do you have gardens at home? What are the

plants in your garden? In what way gardening
helps us? What can we get from our gardens?
C. Presentation
Kent planted pechay in his garden. If
there are two rows of pechay plant with
10 plants in it, how many pechay plants
are there in all?

Do you have gardens at home? What are the

plants in your garden? In what way gardening
helps us? What can we get from our gardens?
C. Presentation

Illustrates 2 rows of 10 pechay plants on the board.

How many rows of pechay did Kent plant? How many pechay
plants are there in each row? Is there the same number of
pechay plant in each row? How many pechay plants are there in
all?
Count by sets or multiples of 10.
Show the repeated addition on the board.
10 + 10 = 20
Repeated addition can be express in shorter way through
multiplication:
2 x 10 = 20
D. Discussion/Abstraction
Provide pupils with rubber bands. Let
them make 4 sets of 5 rubber bands. Let
them give the repeated addition and
multiplication sentence.
Repeated Addition:
5 + 5 + 5 + 5 = 20
Multiplication Sentence:
4 x 5 = 20
E. Exercises
F. Generalization

Repeated addition mao ang pabalik-

balik nga pagdugang sa mga butang
nga adunay pareha og gidaghanon.
Mahimo usab kining ipahayag sa
minugbo ug paspas nga paagi gamit
ang multiplication o pagpilo-pilo.
Application
Provide pupils the opportunity to group objects by sets and let
them give the repeated addition and multiplication sentence.
1. Make 4 sets of 2 circles
Repeated addition: ______________
Multiplication sentence: __________
2. Make 2 sets of 3 hearts
Repeated addition: ___________
Multiplication sentence: ____________

DAY 2
A. Preparation
Drill: Write the answers on the addition
sentence.
a. 1 + 1 + 1 + 1 + = 4
b. 2 + 2 + 2 = 6
c. 4 + 4 = 8
d. 3 + 3 + 3 = 9
e. 2 + 2 + 2 + 2 + 2 = 10
B. Motivation

What is your favorite ball game?

Why?
What is the movement of the ball?
What does the ball do when it falls
on the ground?
C. Presentation
Now, let’s find out how a ball bounces from
beginning to end?

What can you see in the illustration?

How many bounces were made by the ball?
How many spaces are there in each bounce?
C. Presentation

If the ball makes 4 bounces and there are 3 spaces

in each bounce, how many are there in all?
What spaces are in the addition sentence for this?
3 + 3 + 3 + 3 = 12
What number is added repeatedly? How many
times did you add 3?
So, 3 + 3 + 3 + 3 = 12 Can be written as
4 x 3 = 12
D. Discussion/Abstraction
Here’s another illustration

0 1 2 3 4 5 6 7 8
How many jumps are there in the number line?
How many spaces in each jump?
If there are 4 jumps and 2 spaces in each jump, how
many spaces are there in all?
E. Exercises
Group1 - Write the repeated addition and multiplication based
on the illustration given.
E. Exercises
Group2 - Write the repeated addition and multiplication based on
the illustration given.

Group3 - Show an illustration of a number line base

on the given repeated addition: 2 + 2 + 2 + 2 + 2,
Then give the multiplication sentence
F. Generalization

How is multiplication related to

addition? How do you show
multiplication of whole number as
repeated addition?
Application
Tan-awa pila ka sets o hut-ong sa mansanas. Pila ka
manzanas ang anaa sa kada sets o hut-ong? Pila ka
mansanas tanan?

What kind of books do you like to
read? What is the advantage of a
person who always read books?
C. Presentation
Lito is reading a book. He found out that he can
finish two pages of the book in one minute. How
many pages of the book can he finish in 4
minutes?

Let the pupils simulate the situation above and

record how many pages they can read in one
minute.
