كيف تعمل اليونسكو على تحقيق فهم أفضل للمحيطات وإذكاء الوعي بها وحمايتها
UNESCO in brief
UNESCO, the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization, is a specialized agency dedicated to strengthening our shared humanity through the promotion of education, science, culture, and communication.
We set standards, produce tools and develop knowledge to create solutions to some of the greatest challenges of our time, and foster a world of greater equality and peace.
Protecting biodiversity, responding to artificial intelligence, advancing quality education, safeguarding heritage, and ensuring access to reliable information are some examples of the work that UNESCO does with its 194 Member States across the globe.
Only through journalism do we see the full picture
In 2024, 82 journalists lost their lives, just for doing their job. To mark World Press Freedom Day on 3 May, UNESCO is honouring all those who risk their safety to defend the public’s right to know – including the Nicaraguan newspaper La Prensa, winner of this year’s UNESCO/Guillermo Cano World Press Freedom Prize.

Heat-resistant ‘super corals’: a source of hope for the future of coral reefs?
In the Tatakoto atoll in French Polynesia, a concentration of ‘super corals’, capable of withstanding intense heatwaves as well as extreme temperature fluctuations, has been identified thanks to expeditions supported by UNESCO, Labex Corail and the University of French Polynesia (UPF).
