	Hello! Welcome to the project for mapping efforts in Guatemala! You can find here national events, ongoing projects, map status and mapping guidelines, as well as links to other pages directly related to the mapping of Guatemala. You may also find a list of contacts and mappers involved with the OpenStreetMap community in Guatemala.

This guide is a constant work in progress being created to eventually standardize the common tags to be used throughout the region, as far as possible, including how to tag POIs, entering names, as well as road classifications, and other relevant data. All this is being done for the sole purpose of being able to create between all of us a detailed, usable, clear, consistent and as updated possible of Guatemala. As this document in a constant change, you may inquire directly over the Telegram @openstreetmapGT/1 chat group should any other specific doubt arise

Main Objectives

Although there has already been much data added to the Guatemala map (including the major highway network and main cities) there is still much need for more data. Entire populated areas (towns and villages) are yet pending to be mapped. Many minor roads, new roads, rivers and other clearly visible features on the available satellite imagery throughout the country still have not been added to this project.

Data Entry

• Points of Interest (POI)

A POI may be drawn-in either as a simple node, a polygon or in some cases even as a multipolygon Always take special care of specifying the type of POI it goes under (amenity, leisure, shop, etc). Consulting the wiki is always recommended refer to the proper tagging schemes and be sure to include the address as per the the following:

• • addr:street=* (use ONLY if you know the correct street name).
  • addr:housenumber=*
  • addr:full=* (Use when other data is included, such as "Zona" or "Km"

Both

• • addr:city=* and
  • addr:country=*

are NOT required as these already exist within the administrative boundary layers

• Roads (highway)
• Edificios (building)
• Áreas (area)

Helpful Tools

• Mapillary
• KartaView (previously OpenStreetCam)

We need to get more and better, up-to-date on-ground imagery in order to adequately map this country. YOU can help us accomplish this by using the Mapillary or KartaView apps, available for iOS and Android, which allow you to capture and upload geo-referenced images from any smartphone. These image sequences can be taken while on foot or while driving a car, bus, motorcycle or bicycle. Then, when uploaded, may be view through the website or directly on the OpenStreetMap editors.

You just need to follow a few basic rules to get good useful imagery and help us map to out this beautiful country.
