Is Trump about to ban DJI drones — or help them avoid a ban?

The Washington Post is reporting he’s expected to sign executive orders on drones next week, suggesting they could “end Chinese drone sales in the US.”

That might be true, but the main action WaPo describes is “the executive order could direct the U.S. intelligence community to accelerate reviews of whether Chinese drone makers DJI and Autel are national security risks” — which is exactly what DJI would like the US to do. DJI products will be automatically banned unless an agency finishes that review. If there’s a review, there’s a chance.

The Google remedies trial is over.

We’re at the end of a day-long set of closing arguments, concluding with one final request to the judge from DOJ attorney David Dahlquist to “please seize this moment in time” and order Google to change how it runs search. Judge Mehta thanks everyone for dealing with a “challenging schedule” for the trial and says “we’ll get back to you as soon as we can,” and with that, the remedies trial portion of US v. Google is officially done.

Thank you for staying, someone whispers right next to the conference line just before things go silent — pretty sure it’s not directed at those of us listening in, but I can always dream. For now, we’ll be awaiting a ruling later this year.

Google is gearing up for its next round of Pixel launches.

The company is giving 25 Pixel Superfans a chance to attend its pre-launch event in London on June 27th, according to a message sent to Superfans on Friday.

At its “Pixel Penthouse,” Google will offer up a sneak peek at its next-gen devices and features, which will likely include the Pixel 10 and maybe even its new buds, smartwatch, and tablet, too.

There’s a native app for SteamOS now, and it’s pretty great.

Musk and DOGE don’t seem to be going anywhere.

Despite Musk’s stated departure from DOGE (and attempts to talk up his focus on his businesses), sources tell Wired that DOGE-related efforts across federal agencies are “escalating.” President Trump confirmed on Friday that Musk’s “really not leaving,” either, as the tech billionaire says he expects “to continue to provide advice.”

Maybe he should provide a little advice about pest control next, based on the condition the DOGE team appears to have left the United States Institute of Peace’s headquarters in.

Sunny and Gizmo are the best thing on YouTube right now.

ICYMI, the livestream of a bald eagle nest in California’s Big Bear Valley is mesmerizing. Eagle-eyed viewers are anxiously waiting for the two twelve-week-old eaglets to fledge the nest, where they’ve been carefully raised by parents Jackie and Shadow since hatching in March.

The nest is perched about 145 feet above Big Bear Lake, so it’s a hair-raising prospect. But just yesterday, Sunny caught some serious air. Will this weekend bring the big day?

GameSir’s $30 Nova 2 Lite controller includes Hall effect sticks and triggers.

It’s almost a bit boring when compared to the GameSir’s $69.99 Tarantula Pro that can change the layout of its face button labels. But for $29.99, the Nova 2 Lite could be a solid alternative to 8BitDo’s Ultimate 2C with Hall effect joysticks and triggers that can be locked to a shorter travel for FPS games.

It also includes an extra pair of remappable back buttons and is compatible with the Switch, PCs, iOS, and Android.

The GameSir Nova 2 Lite is available for preorder in midnight gray and luminous white color options with shipping expected to start on June 3rd.
The controller’s back buttons can be reprogrammed to mirror the functionality of other buttons, or to trigger macros of several button presses in sequence.
The Hall effect triggers can be individually locked to a shorter travel using sliding switches.
The Nova 2 Lite has a larger 600mAh battery than the 8BitDo Ultimate 2C (480 mAh) and is compatible with an optional $14.99 charging dock.

Build-a-Gunpla.

This September, Bandai will open a Gundam museum in Japan, where you can not only watch staff members manufacture Gunpla kits inside its factory, but also create a plastic mini mech of your own, as spotted by IGN.

You’ll get to design the concept of your model, pick a color scheme, create plastic runners to house the individual parts, and even make the packaging. Time to buy a plane ticket to Japan!

This is a concept image showing what the Gunpla design process might look like.

EA’s Black Panther cancellation explained.

When a big-time video game gets cancelled, expect Jason Schreier at Bloomberg to get the details quick, sharp, and in a hurry. This week EA announced it would cancel its Black Panther game, one of three the publisher has in development for Marvel Games. According to Schreier’s reporting, EA executives were frustrated with progress on the game after four years in development.

Track your mental stress... with a forehead e-tattoo?

That’s what researchers at the University of Texas at Austin are proposing in this paper published in Device. In an interview with IEEE Spectrum, co-author Nanshu Lu says it’s meant to help people in “high-stakes, high-demand” jobs monitor their stress in real-time. The e-tattoo measures brainwaves and eye movements to decode mental workloads to help prevent people in stressful jobs from reaching a breaking point.

Obviously, this is research and not an actual thing yet — but it sure does look cyberpunk.

Apple execs aren’t going to appear on The Talk Show Live at WWDC this year.

John Gruber of Daring Fireball has been hosting a WWDC live podcast session for years, and every year since 2015, Apple senior execs have shown up. That won’t be the case for the 2025 edition, and after his recent report on unmet promises of Apple Intelligence, I think I can guess why.

I did not expect King of the Hill to make me feel this much.

But the new intro for the upcoming Hulu revival is a remarkable little slice of storytelling, cramming a whole lot into just 40 seconds. The new season hits starts streaming on August 4th.

    Make it Nightreign.

Next week’s Elden Ring Nightreign’s 1.02 patch will add improvements for solo runs, including an automatic revival once per main boss and an increase in the runes you get.

Like my colleague Ash, I had fun with solo runs even though they were tough, so this should make them better.

Ford’s spoiler-ific Super Mustang Mach-E will tackle Pikes Peak next month.

The Blue Oval aims to tackle America’s mountain with a new Mustang Mach-E derived demonstrator with French racing impresario Romain Dumas behind the wheel. This is the third consecutive year that Ford is competing with an electric demonstrator at Pikes Peak, following the SuperVan 4.2 and F-150 Lightning SuperTruck.

Some Palantir employees are worried about ‘reputational damage’ over the company’s work for Trump.

Palantir has received more than $113 million in federal funds since Trump took office and is reportedly discussing potential contracts with the Social Security Administration and the IRS. The ubiquity of Palantir’s tech within federal agencies may help Trump achieve his goal of creating a master database allowing administration officials to access data on nearly anyone in the US.

Employees are “raising questions internally” about Palantir’s contracts, one former engineer said. Some are worried about the implications of collecting so much data on Americans.

Spirit Halloween is struggling to deal with tariffs too.

For the past few years, Spirit Halloween has held a grand opening celebration in the summer at its flagship store in Egg Harbor Township, New Jersey, where it showcases its latest costumes and props. But the event has been canceled this year, the retailer recently announced on Instagram, blaming “international disruptions and supply chain challenges.”

Tariffs may have ruined the party, but Spirit Halloween still plans to open over 1,500 stores this year, starting in mid-August.

    Say Drake...

I hear you like your Nokias... blung? Listen, it’s early and I’m not Kendrick. However, behold this iced-out Nokia phone and wallet chain that jeweler Alex Moss made for Drake’s Some Sexy Songs 4 U album. Hypebeast has the details but apparently this project took four months to complete and has over 150 carats of diamonds.

I think this counts as a wearable.

Closing arguments in the Google search antitrust trial.

Closing arguments are starting in US v. Google, the antitrust trial that could determine whether Google is forced to sell its Chrome browser and dramatically change its search business. We’re not in court today, but we’re listening on a dial-in line for this final stage of the trial.

Automattic has resumed contributions to the WordPress project.

The company, which runs WordPress.com, paused contributions to the WordPress open-source project in January, citing the “significant time and money” it spent due to its ongoing legal battle with WP Engine.

In a post on Thursday, Automattic announced it’s ready to “return fully” to the WordPress project, where it will provide contributions across WordPress Core, Gutenberg, WordPress.org, and other parts of the ecosystem.
