Film Cannes Winners Are Again Good For Neon But Create Confusing Picture For Oscar Race
It is hard to imagine Iran will submit this year’s Cannes Palme d’Or winner ‘It Was Just an Accident’, a negative look at its regime, for the Oscars. Its distributor Neon, which now has a six-year Cannes win streak that includes Best Picture Academy Award winners ‘Anora’ and ‘Parasite’, picked up the Jafar Panahi movie this past week and, with its fellow fest winners ‘The Secret Agent’ and ‘Sentimental Value’, will have plenty of paths to navigate on its way to the 2026 Oscars. Here’s what else Deadline’s Pete Hammond gleaned from this weekend on the Croisette.
