Wikipedia:Requested moves/Technical requests
Appearance
If you are unable to complete a move for technical reasons, you can request technical help below. This is the correct method if you tried to move a page, but you got an error message saying something like "You do not have permission to move this page, for the following reasons:..." or "The/This page could not be moved, for the following reason:..."
- Please make sure you really need technical assistance before making a request here. In particular, if the target page is a redirect back to the source page that has only one revision, you can usually move the page normally.
- To list a technical request: Uncontroversial technical requests subsection and insert the following code at the bottom of the list, filling in pages and reason:
This will automatically insert a bullet and include your signature. Please do not edit the article's talk page.
{{subst:RMassist|current page title|new title|reason=edit summary for the move}}
the - If you object to a proposal listed in the uncontroversial technical requests section, please move the request to the Contested technical requests section, append a note on the request elaborating on why, and sign with ~~~~. Consider pinging the requester to let them know about the objection.
- If your technical request is contested, or if a contested request is left untouched without reply, create a requested move on the article talk and remove the request from the section here. The fastest and easiest way is to click the "discuss" button at the request, save the talk page, and remove the entry on this page.
Technical requests
[edit]Uncontroversial technical requests
[edit]- Doubleday Broadcasting Co. → Doubleday Broadcasting (currently a redirect instead to Doubleday (publisher)) (move · discuss) – Per WP:NCCORP, corporate suffixes like "Co." are not ordinarily included in the article title. Moreover, while none of the existing reference titles use either company name, the 18JUN1991 WaPo article "WAVA-FM's New Zookeepers" and 07FEB1983 NYMag article "Doubleday Rocks and Rolls" simply refer to the company as "Doubleday Broadcasting". Doubleday Broadcasting has redirected to Doubleday (publisher) since 2006, anticipating this eventual article on a defunct subsidiary. ViridianPenguin🐧 (💬) 04:33, 28 May 2025 (UTC)
- Japanese sturgeon → Amur sturgeon (currently a redirect back to Japanese sturgeon) (move · discuss) – "Amur sturgeon" appears to be the far more common name used for this species based on Google Search and Google Scholar results, so WP:COMMONNAME applies. Geekgecko (talk) 03:35, 29 May 2025 (UTC)
- Stannary Convocation of Devon → Devon Stannary Parliament (currently a redirect instead to Stannary law#Devon Stannary Parliament) (move · discuss) – This assembly is more commonly referred to as the Devon Stannary Parliament (WP:COMMONNAME). The redirect should be pointing to the dedicated article on the subject anyway, rather than the small section on the Stannary law page as it currently does, so two birds one stone in this case. LocalTrainTales (talk) 10:07, 29 May 2025 (UTC)
- Ministry of the Solicitor General (Ontario) → Ministry of the Solicitor General (currently a redirect instead to Solicitor General of Canada) (move · discuss) – Remove unnecessary disambiguator. I can find no evidence the federal cabinet position that the page currently links to was ever called "Ministry of the Solicitor General". Legend of 14 (talk) 03:51, 30 May 2025 (UTC)
- Dhofar War → Dhofar Rebellion (currently a redirect back to Dhofar War) (move · discuss) – Clear WP:COMMONNAME per ngrams 𐩣𐩫𐩧𐩨 Abo Yemen (𓃵) 08:21, 30 May 2025 (UTC)

[edit]Contested technical requests
[edit]- Ben Rice (baseball) → Ben Rice (move · discuss) – Over the last month, the baseball player accounts for 96.5% of total pageviews for the topic "Ben Rice" and 96.3% of median pageviews. Since the beginning of the year, those numbers are 95.9% and 92.9%, respectively. So not a product of recency, but a clear main topic. The baseball player should have the base, non-disambiguated page name. Debartolo2917 (talk) 16:45, 29 May 2025 (UTC)
- Clearly, WP:RECENTISM is a factor in this sports player's current popularity. (This is just a comment, not an objection.) — BarrelProof (talk) 18:55, 29 May 2025 (UTC)
- Primary topic grabs are not uncontroversial. 162 etc. (talk) 03:58, 30 May 2025 (UTC)
- Baṛī ye → Bari ye (currently a redirect back to Baṛī ye) (move · discuss) – WP:TSC. — Ö S M A N (talk · contribs) 06:03, 27 May 2025 (UTC)
- @EmperorÖsmanIXXVMD: The move appears to be contested, or at least that's how I understand User:Voorts's edit summary Special:Diff/1292430159. That means, to pursue the move, you should start an RM discussion (which you can create by clicking the "discuss" link). Adumbrativus (talk) 04:55, 29 May 2025 (UTC)
- Sikkimese Bhutia language → Bhutia language (currently a redirect back to Sikkimese Bhutia language) (move · discuss) – "Bhutia language" is the WP:COMMONNAME for the language—it's not often called "Sikkimese Bhutia language", just "Bhutia language" or "Sikkimese language". In addition, there's no other Bhutia language, so no need to disambiguate; this is the WP:PRIMARYTOPIC for that title. Ookap (talk) 19:32, 26 May 2025 (UTC)
- @Ookap: As the title has been the subject of past RM discussion – see Talk:Sikkimese Bhutia language – you will need a new RM discussion (which you can create by clicking the "discuss" link) in order to change it back to Bhutia language. Adumbrativus (talk) 04:42, 29 May 2025 (UTC)
- South Punjab Province → Saraikistan (currently a redirect back to South Punjab Province) (move · discuss) – Please revert undiscussed move by blocked sockpuppet Vk8435820, who moved the article on 18 April 2023 without discussing anything. Saraikistan is far far more commonly used than "South Punjab" FujaFula (talk) 22:26, 28 May 2025 (UTC)
- @FujaFula: For a few reasons, I think this should go to a RM discussion (which you can create by clicking the "discuss" link). The move was two years ago, and it arguably may be "stable" "for a long time" (see WP:TITLECHANGES for these not precisely defined terms) and not subject to an immediate revert. Although User:Vk8435820 is blocked (for copyright violations), the 2023 move was endorsed by another editor (Special:Diff/1151041150). The move appears potentially controversial. Adumbrativus (talk) 04:04, 29 May 2025 (UTC)
- Cathedral of Our Lady (Antwerp) → Cathedral of Our Lady, Antwerp (currently a redirect back to Cathedral of Our Lady (Antwerp)) (move · discuss) – Removing brackets, as per WP:COMMADIS Jason Lagos (talk) 18:59, 26 May 2025 (UTC)
- @Jason Lagos "Cathedral of Our Lady" is not an administrative division, so "Antwerp" is not a higher-level administrative division. Therefore WP:COMMADIS does not apply --Ahecht (TALK
PAGE) 16:48, 27 May 2025 (UTC)- Thank you for your answer, though I am a bit surprised by it, as I would consider a building to be a "place", albeit not a geographic one. If WP:COMMADIS does not apply here, can we at least agree that a comma is preferable as per WP:TITLECON? I have seen relatively few articles on buildings with city names between brackets, and this is the only one among the Roman Catholic churches in Antwerp, which makes it somewhat of an anomaly. - ß → ẞ (currently a redirect back to ß) (move · discuss) – Letter case to capital, per MOS:AT HouseLiving roomDIY Fixings 22:23, 26 May 2025 (UTC)
- @Anohthterwikipedian Since the merge of Capital ẞ into ß was the result of a discussion at Talk:ß/Archive 1#Merge Capital ẞ here?, I think a discussion would be needed here to move the the uppercase letter, especially given how recent and controversial the uppercase form is. --Ahecht (TALK

- Netta → Netta (genus) (move · discuss) – Netta Barzilai is known as Netta and is the more common usage. Netta should then become a redirect to Netta Barzilai, which would also need a link to Netta (disambiguation). Netta Barzilai could also be renamed to Netta, but I'm new and don't know what would be preferred. BroJac5246 (talk) 19:34, 27 May 2025 (UTC)
- @BroJac5246 This primary topic grab doesn't seem clearly correct to me. jlwoodwa (talk) 18:09, 28 May 2025 (UTC)
- To be clear, I would recommend this be a full RM discussion, not a technical request. jlwoodwa (talk) 18:12, 28 May 2025 (UTC)

- Moist county (Kentucky) → Moist county (currently a redirect back to Moist county (Kentucky)) (move · discuss) – Unnecessary disambiguation. DigitalIceAge (talk) 04:29, 29 May 2025 (UTC)
- Valereee moved the article in 2023 (after which the disambiguator was adjusted twice) probably because the text is specific to Kentucky, though moist counties exist elsewhere in the U.S. The redirect can be boldly retargeted to, for example, Dry county. If (Kentucky) doesn't have enough sources to justify a standalone article, it can be redirected to a broader article like the one on Kentucky alcohol laws. - Yazylski rural council → Draft:Yazylski rural council (currently a redirect back to Yazylski rural council) (move · discuss) – not ready for mainspace; references are not verifiable and insufficient --Altenmann >talk 19:16, 29 May 2025 (UTC)
- @Altenmann Article has been moved back from draft to main after draftifying so will need RM consensus to return to draft, per WP:DRAFTNO CoconutOctopus talk 19:20, 29 May 2025 (UTC)
- @CoconutOctopus: I thought Altenmann is the only substantial contributor to this page. In that case I don't think WP:DRAFTNO is intended to stop a move. If Altenmann wanted a speedy deletion, not merely draftifying, that would have been permissible too. But anyway, @Altenmann: I don't think there is a technical limitation preventing you from moving this yourself? Adumbrativus (talk) 06:33, 30 May 2025 (UTC)
- Please ignore this request for now. I am in a conflict with an admin, who thinks I am disrupting Wikipedia with this move. In fact, I have about 200 pages which I created while unwittingly violating copyright, see, e.g., here. When the dust settles, I will ask to review whether all of them must be draftified. --Altenmann >talk 07:43, 30 May 2025 (UTC)

- Megabus (Europe) → Megabus (United Kingdom) (currently a redirect back to Megabus (Europe)) (move · discuss) – Megabus ceased operations outside of the UK years ago, operations were taken over by Flixbus. Coleisforeditor (talk) 18:53, 29 May 2025 (UTC)
- @Coleisforeditor There was a prior discussion which resuitled in this move. While it has been a long time since, given that the article is move protected, opening a discussion might be prudent. – robertsky (talk) 01:02, 30 May 2025 (UTC)
