Wikipedia:WikiProject Deletion sorting/Japan

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

This is a collection of discussions on the deletion of articles related to Japan. It is one of many deletion lists coordinated by WikiProject Deletion sorting. Anyone can help maintain the list on this page.

Adding a new AfD discussion
Adding an AfD to this page does not add it to the main page at WP:AFD. Similarly, removing an AfD from this page does not remove it from the main page at WP:AFD. If you want to nominate an article for deletion, go through the process on that page before adding it to this page. To add a discussion to this page, follow these steps:
  1. Edit this page and add {{Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/PageName}} to the top of the list. Replace "PageName" with the relevant article name, i.e. the one on the existing AFD discussion. Also, indicate the title of the article in the edit summary as it is particularly helpful to add a link to the article in the edit summary. When you save the page, the discussion will automatically appear.
  2. You should also tag the AfD by adding {{subst:delsort|Japan|~~~~}} to it, which will inform editors that it has been listed here. You may place this tag above or below the nomination statement or at the end of the discussion thread.
There are a few scripts and tools that can make this easier.
Removing a closed AfD discussion
Closed AfD discussions are automatically removed by a bot.
Other types of discussions
You can also add and remove other discussions (prod, CfD, TfD etc.) related to Japan. For the other XfD's, the process is the same as AfD (except {{Wikipedia:Miscellany for deletion/PageName}} is used for MFD and {{transclude xfd}} for the rest). For PRODs, adding a link with {{prodded}} will suffice.
Further information
For further information see Wikipedia's deletion policy and WP:AfD for general information about Articles for Deletion, including a list of article deletions sorted by day of nomination.

With a football career essentially consisting of 21 games in Singapore, the player needs multiple pieces of significant independent coverage to pass GNG and SPORTCRIT. In the Japanese Wikipedia, there is one dead link, four primary sources and databases. Geschichte (talk) 21:53, 5 June 2025 (UTC)[reply]

Unreferenced stub (well, just a general ref, no footnotes). Uncler how this meets WP:GNG/WP:SIGCOV. My BEFORE shows some mentions in passing here or there, but noting in-depth. Piotrus at Hanyang| reply here 13:10, 5 June 2025 (UTC)[reply]

Proposed in 2021, but rejected - A 30 game professional career is some, but he dropped into a lower league before retiring in 2007. Fails GNG. Creator is indefinitely blocked. RossEvans19 (talk) 14:42, 4 June 2025 (UTC)[reply]

This article has existed for over 20 years and does not have any citations that are not primary sources (that is, from Anchor Hocking, the company that makes Fire-King branded glass products). The lack of citations has been noted before. The claims made on this page may be true. But citations have not surfaced. For those that wish to keep, perhaps citations can be dug up. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Louiemantia (talkcontribs) 08:28, 2 June 2025 (UTC)[reply]

With only one season spent in the second Japanese league with 14 games played, this would need several pieces of independent in-depth-coverage to meet GNG and SPORTCRIT. Japanese Wikipedia only contains primary sources. I also find it pertinent to mention that it was created by a sock farm, which has had literally several hundred articles deleted. Possibly WP:TOOSOON. Very insigninficant football career so far, only 297 minutes in the J League system. The only source in Japanese Wikipedia that is not a primary source is a match report from the YBC Levain Cup. Geschichte (talk) 12:44, 2 June 2025 (UTC)[reply]

Keep — it’s currently 5am so I’m not eager to get up and edit right now, but 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8, he seems to meet GNG in Japan with a couple of articles in Brazil, where he is still actively playing for the team that just finished runners up in the Paranaense. I’ve not read the links above yet but will expand this article later today and I’d be very surprised if it does not meet GNG. Zênite (talk) 04:19, 3 June 2025 (UTC)[reply]

Deleted in 2014. Amateur journeyman footballer who at the highest level played 18 minutes in the Portuguese second league. Not a serious candidate for meeting WP:SPORTCRIT, and the coverage is trivial. Geschichte (talk) 12:39, 2 June 2025 (UTC)[reply]

Same as List of K League licensed video games, trivial article about a football league being licensed in video games. GamerPro64 04:55, 1 June 2025 (UTC)[reply]

The issues from the last AFD have not been resolved, but as that discussion was treated as a PROD due to low participation I'm re-opening the discussion. I'm not seeing anything to indicate notability. 🌸wasianpower🌸 (talk • contribs) 16:14, 31 May 2025 (UTC)[reply]

Rightfully prodded by @Spiderone many years ago, is not close to notable and has no GNG-granting sources. Geschichte (talk) 07:12, 31 May 2025 (UTC)[reply]

Embassies are not inherently notable, consulates even less so. Sources 2-8 merely confirm who the consul was. Lacking SIGCOV about this actual consulate to meet WP:ORG. LibStar (talk) 00:47, 30 May 2025 (UTC)[reply]

I just got a notification, I've no issue one way or the other, but instead of deletion I would hope that a redirect to the embassy's page would be better. A bit unrelated but I also wanted to know whether the idea of merging ambassadorial lists to their respective embassy articles is better than a standalone article for the former, not only for this particular case or country in general but for a number of them as I notice that a number are outdated and both article types could very well be improved that way and make for easier reading. I'd be happy to take care of both aspects. AlejandroFC (talk) 01:07, 30 May 2025 (UTC)[reply]
I went ahead and followed through with my suggestion. I would still appreciate feedback on the other idea. AlejandroFC (talk) 01:47, 4 June 2025 (UTC)[reply]

This was a redirect, blown up to article size--but the supplied links are basically all company sources and manuals, and I cannot find any secondary sources either. A redirect to Tales of Mobile is the proper solution. Drmies (talk) 19:28, 19 May 2025 (UTC)[reply]

  • Redirect - sourcing is very short and weak, not enough to support a stand-alone article (as evidenced by the fact that probably over half of the article remains unsourced with little improvements in the last week or two.) The whole reason the the Tales of Mobile article exists is to serve as a landing point for all of these minor titles. None of these spinouts from it should have been created, as they all share the same sourcing issues and half-baked implementation. Note to closer: IgelRM's redirect !vote was placed higher up in the discussion, but was added after one of the relist, so there is a consensus developing post-relists. Comment on the talk pages of the articles, not here. If you agree with the proposed deletion, you don't have to do anything. If you think the article merits keeping, then remove the {{prod}} template and make an effort to improve the article so that it clearly meets the notability and verifiability criteria.
