Dutch
[edit]Etymology
[edit]From Middle Dutch almechtich, from Old Dutch *alamahtīg (debatably attested in the Old Saxon Baptismal Vow, the linguistic classification of which is unclear and which contains Old Dutch features), from Proto-Germanic *alamahtīgaz. By surface analysis, almacht + -ig, although in fact almacht is a back-formation from the adjective; alternatively may be interpreted as al- + machtig.
Pronunciation
[edit]Adjective
[edit]almachtig (comparative almachtiger, superlative almachtigst)

- (figuratively) (the most) mighty, in (almost total) control
