Lesson Plan #10

Lab 2
Baking Pizza
Date:
Wednesday, October 19th, 2016
Supervisor:
Tayla Jones
Lead Teacher: Bethany Bennett Lesson #2
Children and Learning/Development Goals:
1. Child 1-We have a goal to improve his fine motor skills/strength like with zippers or
buttons. In the manipulative area I will put out the spaghetti maker playdough toy
so he can work on his fine motor skills.
2. Child 2-We have a goal for Child 2 to recognize/write letters and to improve his
counting skills. For my literacy activity we have find the letter P. I will prompt the
teachers in prelab to have Child 2 find words that start with the letter P and even ask
him to trace the letter P. We can also do this with the letter L.
3. Child 3-We have a goal for Child 3 to work on his emotional regulation. Blocks has
been a great area for the children to work on emotional regulation. There will only be
so many waffle blocks out so the children will have to work together in order to play
with them. Child 3 liked the waffle blocks last time they were used so he will have to
work with other children and work on his emotional regulation if something happens
that he doesnt like.
4. Child 4-His goal is to work on emotional regulation. At the manipulatives table there
will only be so many playdough toys out. The children will have to share the toys and
the playdough. Child 4 will have to practice turn taking which has been hard for him.
5. Child 5-His goal is to work on his speech. During snack we can have Child 5 verbally
ask for snack before we give it to him. Some prompting and mimicking may be
necessary. There will also be opportunities in gathering time for Child 5 to repeat
words and phrases.
6. Child 6-His goal is to work on emotional regulation. In the block area Child 6 will have
to work with others and share the waffle blocks.
Preassessment and Findings:
1. Child 7-She says she loves cheese pizza and she didnt know you could put fruit on
pizza like pineapple. When I had all my apple activities set up Child 7 went right for
playing with the pizza and the pizza boxes. We can teach Child 7 about how you can
put so many different toppings on pizza.
2. Child 2-He says he loves peperoni pizza. When I asked him if he had ever made pizza
before he said, No, but I know you need sauce, peperoni, and bread. We can show
Child 2 how to make pizza.
3. Child 4-When I was feeding a cow a piece of pizza Child 4 said, People eat pizza, not
cowsand I guess teachers eat pizza too. He said he hates it when pizza is spicy but
if it just has cheese then he likes it.
4. Child 8-When Child 4 said he didnt like spicy pizza Child 8 said, I love spicy peperoni
pizza. He also said he has never made pizza before. We can make pizza with Child 8.
5. Child 9-When I asked him if he has ever made pizza before he said, No, I dont know
how to make pizza. We can show Child 9 how to make pizza.
6. Child 10-In response to Child 9, she said she had made pizza before but she doesnt
remember how to make it. We can show Child 10 how to make pizza.
7. Child 6-When I had the pizza out during self-selected Child 6 carried around the pizza
and pizza box the entire time and only wanted to play with the pizza.
8. Child 1-While building his spaceship, he told Child 11 that they needed to gather food
to take on their trip so they wouldnt get hungry. They both went and got pieces of

pizza.
9. Child 11-When I asked Child 11 why they were only bringing pizza into space he said,
Pizza is really really good and I never get sick of eating it.
10. Child 12-Child 12 asked me why I was asking everyone about pizza and I told her
because I was thinking about teaching a lesson on pizza. She said, Ive had a lesson
on pizza before and I love when we get to eat the pizza.
Child 7 doesnt realize that there are so many different toppings that can go on pizzas. While
I will only provide so many toppings examples I can go over how you can put just about
anything on pizza if you think it will taste good.
A lot of the children have never made pizza before. I can go over how you follow a recipe in
order to make a pizza.
A lot of children know that you need bread for the pizza. I can deepen their knowledge by
showing them how to make the dough for the pizza.
Ideas to be Emphasized:
1. Pizza is made from many ingredients, such as peperoni, cheese, mushrooms,
peppers, sausage, and pineapple. We can follow a recipe to make pizza.
2. Yeast is the ingredient that makes the pizza dough rise.
3. There are many different toppings for pizza, such as peperoni, cheese, mushrooms,
peppers, sausage, and pineapple; everyone likes different toppings.

Location: South Playground

Activity Description: Children can jump on

the jumparoo that will be placed in the south
playground.
Objective: Children will work on balance and
being able to jump by using the jumparoo.
(Domain 2, Goal 17) Children
demonstrate strength and coordination
of large motor muscles.
Activity Description: The ingredients that
are in pizza will have pictures and be hid
around outside. The children will receive
scavenger hunt papers (pizza recipe) that list
the ingredients that are hidden. They will look
for the ingredients listed and put them in a
plastic bag. They can then check off the items
they find off the list.
*This relates to my ITBE that Pizza is dough
made from many ingredients. We can follow a
recipe to make pizza.
Objective: Children will develop cognitive
problem-solving skills to find all the
ingredients on the list and put them in the

GATHERING TIME
8:40 - 8:55 a.m.
Papa Murpheys has someone coming in to talk about pizza. Listed below is my backup gathering
time. While the guest speaker is there, the children will be respectful of the guest speaker
and remember to pay attention when someone is speaking in gathering time. (Domain
3, Goal 38) Children regulate their feelings and impulses.
I will go over my ITBE with the person coming in so they know to hit on those topics.
Transition
Play the song Pass a Piece of Pizza (CDs Y8) and have the children come to gathering time. At
the end ask the children to all sit down. Tape will be placed on the floor and we will ask the
children to sit down slowly on the tape like a stretchy piece of mozzarella cheese.

The teacher will put up a big recipe on the

flannel board. Look at this big recipe! Can you
say recipe? We follow a recipe to make
something. The teacher will also show them
measuring cups and the ingredients that
would be needed to make pizza. Have the
children pretend to put in the ingredients with
you. Then follow the recipe and put the
ingredients in a bowl so the children can see
it. Then the teacher will talk about how we
followed the recipe to make pizza dough.
The teacher will show the children yeast. The
teacher will then talk about the science
activity in self-selected where they will get to
mix yeast and water. The teacher will mix
yeast and water for them now so they can see
what happens. When they are mixed, talk
about how the yeast reacts with the water
which is what makes the pizza dough rise.
The teacher will have a bag filled with different
pizza toppings. Tell the children the different
toppings that we are putting on our pizza.
Have them repeat the names of the toppings.
Then ask them to raise their hand if they like
that topping. The teacher will repeat that until
all the pizza toppings have been shown. Then I

CLOSING CIRCLE

Description & Objective

Description: Have the children sanitize their
hands. Children will try different pizza toppings and
decide if they like them. The teacher will first hold
up a topping. Ask the children what topping it is. If
they do not remember, remind them what topping
it is. Then let each of the children try the topping.
The teacher will mark on a paper with a smile or
frown if the children liked the topping. Once all the
toppings are tasted, the teacher will have the
children try the pizza they made during gathering
time.
*This relates to my ITBE that There are many
different toppings for pizza, and everyone likes
different toppings.
Objective: Children will try different pizza
toppings and decide if they like them. They will try
new things and they will state that not every child
likes the same toppings on their pizza. (Domain 1,
Goal 6) Seeks out new experiences.
Make sure the children wash hands or use hand
sanitizer.
