HEART LAMP Wins the International Booker Prize

On Tuesday, May 20, HEART LAMP (India Penguin) by Banu Mushtak, translated by Deepa Bhasthi, won the 2025 International Booker Prize. The winning title, a collection of 12 short stories which exquisitely capture the everyday lives of women and girls in Muslim communities in southern India, is the first collection of short stories to be awarded the prize and the first winner originally written in Kannada.

Penguin Random House, The National Council of Teachers of English (NCTE), and the Anne Frank Fonds, which is responsible for the publication of Anne Frank’s seminal work, THE DIARY OF A YOUNG GIRL, announced the Anne Frank Award for Teaching Memoir, giving English language arts educators from middle to postsecondary levels the opportunity to apply for funding to advance the teaching of memoir and support student writing in the classroom.

Canisia Lubrin's CODE NOIR Wins the $150,000 Carol Shields Prize for Fiction

On May 1, 2025, poet and writer Canisia Lubrin won the Carol Shields Prize for Fiction for CODE NOIR (Knopf Canada). The Carol Shields Prize for Fiction is the first major English-language literary prize to celebrate creativity and excellence in fiction by women and non-binary writers in Canada and the United States, awarding $150,000 USD to its winner, and $12,500 USD to each of its four finalists.

Philip Pullman Announces Epic Finale to Lyra's Story in Vol. Three of THE BOOK OF DUST

On Tuesday, April 29, Philip Pullman announced the long-awaited and highly anticipated conclusion to his bestselling The Book of Dust series (La Belle Sauvage, The Secret Commonwealth). The final volume, titled THE ROSE FIELD, will be published on October 23, 2025, in the U.S. by the Alfred A. Knopf imprint of Random House Children’s Books and in the UK by David Fickling Books in association with Penguin Random House UK. Chris Wormell will create the jacket and chapter opening illustrations and Michael Sheen will return to narrate the audiobook, which will release simultaneously.
