Complex economics of simple periodic systems

This paper investigates the financial economics of simple periodic systems. Well-established financial procedures appear to be complicated, and lead to partially biased results. Probability theory is applied, and the focus is on the finances of simple periodic growth processes, in the absence of intermediate divestments.

Evolution of conditional cooperation in a spatial public goods game

The authors study the evolution of cooperation using a computational model that allows us to simulate evolutionary dynamics and shows the conditions under which cooperation observed in collectives could emerge. Cooperation is a widespread behavior in biological and human systems that allows groups to function and thrive, but it constitutes a puzzle for evolutionary theories.

Memory signatures in path curvature of self-avoidant model particles are revealed by time delayed self-mutual information

The authors present a method for detecting “hallmarks of self-avoidant memory” from trajectory data for a synthetic environmentally responsive swimming droplet. Because these droplets swim fast relative to the speed at which diffusion erases their self-created chemical gradients, they avoid each other’s and their own past locations.

Signal demixing using multi-delay multi-layer reservoir computing

Reservoir computing is a class of biologically-inspired machine learning models that can accurately predict these time series. A particularly challenging scenario occurs when trying to extract and predict individual signals in a mixture, where each has its own underlying deterministic and stochastic properties.
