The Olive Grove, Beit Sahour (downtown Bethlehem), is an excellent place. My New York (Long Island) friends and our local friend really enjoyed going there and found the food to be really superb. Nice use of lemon, and full flavors. I did not drink any but my friends enjoyed the liquor.
The place is a converted home and has beautiful murals in the different rooms. The hosts were generous and vegan-friendly.

Habe kürzlich einen TV im MediaMarkt Onlineshop bestellt und mir war nicht klar dass “Marketplace” bedeutet dass der Kauf dann über eine Drittfirma läuft. Diese Firma (PriceInfekt) brauchte fast eine Woche um eine Sendungsnummer bereitzustellen, und diese funktionierte dann nicht. Insgesamt 2 Wochen nach dem Kauf stornierte ich deshalb alles. Dafür musste ich mich an die externe Firma wenden; MediaMarkt wies alle Verantwortung von sich. Die Firma erstattete den Kaufpreis, allerdings ohne die Versandkosten. Sie behaupteten, der TV sei inzwischen verschickt worden und ich hätte die Sendung nicht angenommen. Ich musste mich nochmal beschweren, ehe ich die Versandkosten auch zurückbekam. Am Ende haben wir uns einen gebrauchten TV über Kleinanzeigen gekauft und 300€ gespart. Von MediaMarkt lasse ich künftig die Finger, ebenso von PriceInfect.

Fünf Minuten zu Fuß vom Hauptbahnhof liegt in der Einkaufsstraße eine Filiale von Ruff’s Burger. Wie eine Kette wirkt der Laden nicht, das wurde mir erst später bewusst. Ich hätte bei diesem Laden auf einen Solostandort getippt.

Die übersichtliche Speisekarte bietet alles, was das Burgerherz begehrt. Nicht mehr und nicht weniger. Den Burger ausgesucht, die Beilage samt Soßen dazu und ein Getränk. Fertig ist das Menü welches es auch noch zu einem Aktionspreis gab. Dabei war ich um ca. 16 Uhr vor Ort. Das Mittagsgeschäft ist beendet und die Abendgäste noch nicht vor Ort. Entsprechend leer war der Laden – sehr angenehm.

Meine Wahl, der Tiroler Burger mit doppelt Cheddar und einem Rösti, war wirklich gut. Dieser war in Rekordzeit an meinem Tisch. Davon können sich selbst riesige Fast-Food-Ketten etwas abschauen. Das Fleisch war gut angebraten, das Brötchen fluffig und alles sehr hoch gestapelt. Alles in allem zu viel und ich habe den Rösti und den Speck separat essen müssen um mich dann dem Bruder zu widmen.

Zum Dessert hatte ich einen Affogato, einen Espresso mit einer Kugel Vanilleeis. Sehr lecker und für mich bis dahin unbekannt.

Ruff’s Burger in Nürnberg ist für mich eine Empfehlung in der Nähe des Hauptbahnhofs.

De Patchka is a originally a take away shop, but they have also a few tables inside. De Patchka is not a restaurant and has no WC.
I like the food that comes in a box when taking away a lot. It is pretty salty, but I like that. You can also get chopsticks with the food.
I would highly recommend this authentic place in Amsterdam if you like to eat vegan foot, at one of the self service tables, or for take away.

SAM ist ein Dienst der Deutschen Aidshilfe, dementsprechend gemeinnützig und deutlich preiswerter als kommerzielle Anbieter. Der Prozess ist sehr gut durchdacht: Nach einem telefonischen oder persönlichen Beratungsgespräch mit einer AIDS-Beratungsstelle in Wohnortnähe bestellt man online ein Testkit mit Ausstattung und Anleitung zur Probenentnahme und bekommt dieses nachhause geschickt. Dort entnimmt man selbstständig eine Blut- und eine Urinprobe, einen Anal- und einen Oralabstrich und sendet diese in ebenfalls bereitgestellten Behältnissen ins Labor. Nach einigen Tagen erhält man die Ergebnisse im Online-Konto und hat ggf. die Gelegenheit zu einem weiteren Gespräch im Falle positiver Befunde. Bei mir ging es sehr schnell und hat sowohl den Aufwand, als auch die Scham eines STI-Test erheblich reduziert. Standardmäßig wird auf HIV, Syphilis, Gonorrhö (Tripper) und Chlamydien getestet.

This place gives you a better bang for your buck than many places in the area. A huge “1/3 baguette” (option C) sandwich was $4.70.

They have two tables of outdoor seating.

Not the best place for vegans. They have nothing on the menu that’s advertised as vegan. They didn’t really know what vegan is. When I asked if the bread had eggs or milk or cheese, they said no. In the back (where they make the sandwiches), I told them not to put cheese or mayo on it. But, after my meal came out, I noticed they only wrote “sin queso” on the receipt – and the sauce that was on the sandwich looked like mayo to me…

Minus two stars because I very clearly ordered vegan, and I’m pretty sure they fed me egg-sauce (mayo).

My advice to management: put 1 or 2 items on your menu that are vegan. And train your staff on what “vegano” means…

This is one of many Shawarma (and sometimes falafel?) shops located on the East side of La Carolina park (Avenida de los Shyris). It’s one of few that also has outdoor seating.

They had a tasty (vegan) falafel sandwich for $4 wrapped in biodegradable paper.

They did not know what “vegano” is.

…but minus 2 stars because they wrapped it all in plastic

Advice to management: just use paper, so it’s all biodegradable. There’s no need to wrap it in plastic.

They said they knew what “vegan” is, but then they tried to give me aji with eggs. I had to confirm if it has eggs, and they said that their aji (hot sauce) does have eggs in it.

This is the only shop in the entire Pradera that has a vegan item explicitly listed on their menu as “vegan” (actually, they had two “arepa vegana 1” and “arepa vegana 2”).

I got “arepa vegana 2” for $4.10

…but minus 2 stars because they served it in plastic and on a styrofoam plate.

Advice to management: Use paper. Don’t use plastic. Don’t use styrofoam.

They had a tasty (vegan-possible) burger. Nothing on their menu is vegan. They do have a vegetarian burger on their menu, and the staff knew what vegan is. They said that the burger is served with cheese and mayo with eggs. They said the bread was vegan. So, I was able to order the vegetarian burger as vegan (por favor, sin queso y sin mayo).

Combo (with a plastic-only drink), fries, and burger was $6.

…but minus 2 star because they still gave me mayo on the side (I asked “que es?” and they said it was mayo, then quickly removed it from my tray), and I honestly wasn’t sure if they omitted the egg mayo on the burger itself.

…and minus 2 stars because they put it on a plastic sheet. And drinks only came in plastic bottles.

Advice to management: Use paper instead of plastic. And add one vegan burger to your menu. And train your staff to know what “vegan” means.
